Went to work. There is a garden there and a very nice one, but a very morose gardener as well. Since it's been raining hard here hoping that the new plants will get a move on (iin between the dogs digging them up again) and tomorrow is garlic day. Wish me luck.

After work I went to the allotment, lit the woodburner in the greenhaouse and had a pleasant hour sowing sunflowes and horned melons. My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Inspected berminating seeds: cucumbers now up, but still no sign of yellow courgettes (soleil) (5 days behind the green ones (defender)
Moved germinated leeks, spring onions and lettuce from hot hosue to cool house to harden off.
Weekend looks like a busy one: have to spend a day in London :-(.

Earthed up grandson's potato plant which is in a large pot in the greenhouse. Went to the allotment to pick PSB and got soaked. Grandson enjoyed it though - lots of puddles to splash in I have never seen my plot so wet. It's free-draining sandy soil but today there were puddles everywhere.

The sun actually put in an appearance for an hour after work. Consequently I weeded for an hour after work!
Dug out some fairly pernicious weeds and put some new edging around a strange shaped bed roughly 6' X 4'. It had a lupin in part of it that was starting to take over so I dug it up. Didn't realise how strong a root system a lupin had!
Went around the plot and made sure that I weeded any dandelions, especially ones which were trying to flower.
Chooks enjoyed them and they are a natural wormer for them!My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Sowed first row of carrots, beetroot and spinach beet - really late with these this year. DH earthed up spuds, which are popping up well now. Watered sweet peas in cold frame, they really need to go out now, half at plot, the rest in a large pot on the patio I think. The seeds I ordered from Seeds by Post arrived - suddenly realised the day before yesterday that I had forgotten to get sweetcorn, so an emergency order done forthwith, together with some Cobra french beans to try. Noticed that the first of my peas sown in guttering just before last weekend was popping up! Seeds chitting in airing cupboard also zooming away - courgettes put in there on Tuesday have roots, as have toms and chilli's done same day. Waiting with baited breath to see what happens to my self saved parsnip seed put in there yesterday...Life is brief and very fragile, do that which makes you happy.

Closed all of the vents on the cloches that I'd forgotten to close BEFORE the torrential rain fall lol
Looked at grass and saw it needed cutting but thought 'too wet'.
Ironically WATERED all seedlings etc in front porch/cold frame lol
Recycled some plastic containers to use as seed trays, deheaded more primroses
Saw new sprouts emerging on seed trays in porch - yay rain can't wash you away THERE!

I went down the lottie about lunch time to put up the canes ready for my beans. Looks rather impressive if I say so myself
Apart from that, done a little weeding and then the heavens opened so come back home.

Its not rained here.....yet. So Ive been out and planted some of my herbs in my empty borders (rosemary, chocolate mint, purple sage, thyme, curry plant and lavender). Also pulled up my dead raspberry canes and planted a new lot (3rd time lucky?!). Finally gathered up all the random bags of old compost, veggie peelings, cardboard, leaf mould and filled my new compost bin (well, a quarter full!).
Discovered all the bags had been hiding lots of garden bogeys so I went round and dropped the little slimers into a bucket for a salt bath!

Potted on toms that are now too big for the windowsill indoors, so they'll have to take their chances in the stayput. Same goes for chillies, why on earth am I growing so many when I don't even eat them? You guessed it, to give away. Reorganised stayput to accommodate aforesaid. Sowed Poached Egg Plant. Assessed slug damage on seedlings which is immense. Hope the ones I potted on last week fare a bit better. Pricked out spring onions.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Called to the tackle shop & picked up a large tub of worms. Went to lottie, put the worms in their new home, planted out some Cos Lettuce & Swiss Chard (bright lights) under one of the cages as I needed some room in the greenhouse so they'll have to take their chance. Pootled about weeding and surveying..........sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”
