    Seed order arrived today.

From MoreVeg - lots of small(er) amounts of more varieties of veg - which suits my sq foot gardening in the back garden.

I stared at them, read the sowing instructions, shuffled them a bit, stared some more, shuffled a bit more, laid them out on the table, took some photos of them, put them into a container, got them back out again, ignored the strange look I was getting from my other half, re-organised them again then finally put them back in their container again.

Then I longed for March when I can get cracking.

.........it's starting to become an illness

Went to Tesco and bought thyme in a pot, and some sprigs of rosemary and sage. Repotted the thyme in a slightly larger pot and stuck some of the rosemary and sage into the original thyme compost - I read somewhere, possibly here, it was richer and cuttings rooted better. Stuck some cuttings in a wineglass of water to see whether they can root too.

Asked if they gave flower buckets away - no

All my chillis sprouted; no heated propagator but it looks like just putting it near a warm radiator overnight works. Yay

Removed the mouse nests (3!!) and droppings from the potting shed and threw away all the broken pots. Then managed to cut all my short canes from the pea netting from last year - nearly threw the lot in the bin!!

So 2 horrible jobs, but also a nice one - started chitting my earlies :-)

Went to the National Botanic Garden of Wales and had my arm twisted into taking 3 of my crazy neighbours along for the ride. Had an enormous Welsh Cheese pastie in the Great Glasshouse, watched Heb Enw Morris dancing outside in the sunlight and met up with a dancing Grape, (Pleased to meet you Marchogaeth). Laughed most of the day until my sides ached! Now I'm home with a log fire and a bottle of red -feeling very mellow!

Watered the autumn planted onions (that were planted in January in modules in greenhouse), they have all, but one, sprouted. Not bad for 10p from Dobbies. Went to the plot to do some community work and rekindled my gardening mojo.. Might go back this morning but it is cold and murky ... still ... work warms you up, lifted leeks and made a big batch of leek and potato soup.

                    • Sowed more seeds.
2 seeds of each chilli (Nepalese Bell, Onza, Chenzo, Choc long Hab, Lemon drop, Ring of Fire)
3 of each sweet pepper (Orange Bell, Toro Rosso, Sweet Chocolate, California Wonder)
and I think I'll struggle with just those when they're bigger.

Also sowed more leeks (Lyon 2) and onions (Paris white), cos they can go out in the greenhouse once germinated.

And in the greenhouse I chucked in some Broad beans, a garlic (split up) and a few red baron onion sets that were £1 a bag in the local Nisa.

                      • I peeled back the cardboard and made a start on digging t'other half of the plot ......after digging a sizeable chunk I recovered it and weeded the rhubarb patch ......harvested some leeks and am pleased to say that the fleecing worked and there was no signs of the allium leaf miner bugs
S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

                        • Unloaded and spread another six bags of wood chippings on my paths.

I have cordon apple trees along the edge of my plot which, once laden with fruit tend to bow down. Not this year I hope as I have now fastened cross canes across them and tied them into a lattice shape. Plot was frozen so there was little else I could do. Had the woodburner on in the greenhouse though to dry it out a bit.

                          • My first venture into the garden since I dug parsnips on Christmas morning. Dug the rest of them out yesterday and they're now in the freezer. Ground was surprisingly soft despite the freezing temperatures. Cast a quick eye over the onions, beans and garlic which all look to be doing ok.
