  • Cut lower leaves from tomatoes, topped up the compost and watered. Made some strawberry jam (bought ones because the Golden Girls went to Tramlines instead of coming to stay here and I'd already bought the strawbs). Emptied containers used for salad that the snugs ate, they were full of snug eggs.

I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....

                    • Went to the allotment and gave the new beds a thorough soaking. Took some stuff up for the compost bins. Earthed up my squash stems as they had split a bit. Spread some spent compost on to one of the other beds.

                      • Finished watering (tomatos) left over from yesterday. Picked courgettes.

I'm broadly pleased with the "halos" (Garland Plant Halos Set of 3 - Garden Essentials) I bought earlier thsi year, but they are pretty unstable: my tomatos keep falling over when they are used as advertised without extra support.

                        Went to work.

                        • Went to the plot early this morning before it got too warm. Cleaned up a couple of beds, the plot has degenerated into a jungle over the last 3-4 weeks when I was busy at work; when I had spare time it was pouring with rain. Anyway, cleared a bed with cauli plants - and found that a couple have curds the size of ping pong balls! Whoopee!

                          • Picked a few blueberries at home, then went to the lottie. Cut the grassy bits back, and fertilised some of the stuff that's not growing so well. Got happy about the stuff that is growing well, thanks to the sun. Went slimy-hunting, and found the biggest leopard slug I've ever seen- left it be, after noting there were no other slimies under the slab it was under- normally there's loads. Watered a few things in pots.

Picked some strawberries, weeded round them, then started pegging out a few runners, so next year I can have a stupidly large strawberry patch.
