Spotted first true leaves on a few little sneaky tom plants I couldn't resist sowing....a bit daft really as temperatures plummet into double negative figures....but somehow I couldn't resist...now of course I'll fret about keeping them going!...never seem to learn!!!
- watered all the houseplants & overwintering flowers
- squished indoor greenfly & fungus gnats
- watered the garden: it's so dry the snowdrops & primroses have wilted/collapsed
- put out more fatballs & water for the birdies
- a big freeze is due, so I wrapped the potato foliage in newspaper (in cold gh)
Sowed some cape gooseberry. Am very tempted to try root some shop lemongrass in a glass of water, despite the fact I don't know where all these plants are going to fit. And this even with so much left to sow in the coming weeks and months.
Used muscles I didnt know I had punting a munty frame up and starting the fencing. Also dug over half a bed before the ground refreezes. Managed to buy a reduced Worcester Pearmain apple on dwarfstock ready for stepover treatment, upon which I must now read up!

Moved junk around in the conservatory then put up my makeshift table (blue boxes stacked up with a sheet of board on top) .....windowsills are full , need the extra space transplanted some seedlings and potted up a Hardy Fuschia cutting that came home from Wales and has been sitting in a pot of water since before Christmas.......
S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig a batch of jam is always an act of creation ..Christine Ferber
Bought two packs of soft fruit plants (three per pack) from Aldi's for £2.49 each today. There's one Gooseberry "Hinnomaki Red", one Redcurrant "Jonkeers van Tets", two Blackcurrant "Ben Lomond",and two Raspberry "Tulameen".
I will be putting them all into the 1/3rd plot I'm just starting off this year with soft fruit. That's when I can dig the ground of course - it's still a bit frozen at the moment. Hope they will keep ok out of the ground for a while.
