    • Finished my last seed order - Now have Fat baby Achocha, Crown prince, Patty Pan squash and Gold fever Pumpkins coming. Looked forlornly at my new raised beds still under a blanket of snow, then cast another look at my broad beans I was planning to sow last weekend and decided cold weather isn't good for my seed addiction. Devils, hands and all that business.

        • Finally managed to get up to the lottie this afternoon for the first time for ages. It was bitterly cold up there My fingers even in gloves were numb. The ground is still frozen solid but I managed to harvest the last of my leeks - tasted very nice for my tea and loads left for the next couple of days. The potatoes are chitting nicely under a bit of fleece.
We've got snow forecast here again for tomorrow night so I don't expect much will get done over the next few days again.

          • Ordered more seeds because apparently willpower is not something I have.

Cucumbers sprouted. Suddenly realised I have about sixteen tom seedlings - not sure what I was thinking. I don't think I was thinking. Much like I wasn't thinking when I ordered orach and globe artichokes which can get HUGE.

            • Bought a garden bench...dreaming of sunny, warm spring days sitting having a well earned cuppa looking at lots of flourishing plants in weedless (ish!) beds......looking out the window at the weather thinking it might be a while before that day arrives!...still, we're getting there - one day at a time

              • Well, although technically I'm talking about yesterday what I did but this newbie to forum has only just found this thread but I would like to join in... at 7.45 am my little grow house was delivered YAY!! I was Sooo excited, until after delivery man had gone and I'd signed for it bleary eyed and no reading glasses on I popped on my specs and noticed then the picture on the box....it was of a very large WATER FEATURE!!... I was very disappointed, had to wait till 9am to get in touch with customer services, wasn't pleased with this but was polite with them when I eventually got to speak, and by that time my frustration had subsided a little, got it sorted, hoped they would say "keep the water feature as we mucked up your order"....but no, sadly, cos it was a lovely big resin pedestal feature............but for rest of day I just checked my baby flower seedlings in conservatory, took off their fleecy blanket for the day, then just dreamed about the warm sunny spring to arrive like every one else
....hope my grow house comes today!! else I want my express delivery charges reimbursed

                • Sowed asparagus pea and borage.

Ordered more seeds - passionfruit edulis, the type we normally eat, and the banana passionfruit which is supposed to like cooler climes. And a dwarf pink banana.... yes, this is all going to fit somehow on my tiny balcony but you know what? Passionfruit! Pink Banana! Resistance was futile.

                    • We are having milder weather than most of the UK at the moment. Getting as warm as seven or eight degrees some days. The windy weather has even eased off. Yesterday I forked over three of the beds ready for potatoes. Mr Peppermint built me a cold frame - which will be moved out of the garage today.

                        • Having not been around much last year (too busy spending most of my time doing work and family stuff, and the rest desperately trying to keep the plot anyway productive), I renewed the contract on the plot a month ago and plan the first visit this afternoon to harvest leeks and any brassicas that survived.

But yesterday, I DID get to the garden shop and bought spuds (pink fir apple) and onion sets (setton), as well as a few packets of new seeds (parnsip panache, rocket, courgette, spinach apollo and dwarf french bean Flajoly, and free cauli snowball and free cornflower snowball - I have way too many tomato seeds for another pack of those). And I got some fresh peas and spring onions last week in supermarket.

On my way home today, I must also get fresh compost and start sowing seeds this week - I am aiming to get leeks, cabbage, cauli, calabrese, salads and broad beans started for the plot, and some spring onions, carrots and salads for the garden.

Actually sun is breaking through the clouds, so am off to do those while its' nice

                          • rendered 2 of the three walls in the allotment greenhouse, sown some broad beans in the home greenhouse, sown some leeks in a small propagator on the spare bed window cill which will go in the greenhouse once they germinate, sown 6 dwarf french beans as a trial hoping to grow to mature in the lottie greenhouse

                            • I remembered to buy garlic this afternoon en route to the plot, and found some thermal working gloves that I snapped up. Worked great too!!

Otherwise, I checked the plot, harvested leeks, cleared and covered a couple of beds, put this week's peelings into the compost bin (rather than into the garden one) and dug up 4 fruit bushes (I think 3 redcurrants and 1 blackcurrant) to give to PIL at the weekend for their garden.

The prospect of serious digging put me off though, as the beds I was going to use this year need some serious work. Serious. So I will be enlisting OH's help once he returns from overseas working in 2 weeks (he'll need to unwind his muscles after overnight flying and working too hard hunched over a desk there)

Tonnight, I am sorting my seed collection so that I can start sowing this week (I might start tomorrow, but the au pair wants to learn so I will keep a few for Tuesday).
