      • Sown Ailsa Craig onions into paper pots, Red Acre cabbage into peat pots, wondered about what it going on with my broad beans (one is 2" tall with good strong growth, the roots are out of the bottom of the toilet roll tube, and the other 11 haven't broken the surface of the soil yet (wondering if they have simply rotted off).

        • Ventured to the veg plot/tunnel to check the damage the freeze has inflicted. Not too bad - PSB and garlic looking fine outside. B.Beans not too happy, but not terminal I don't think.
Inside onions, sweetpeas, broad beans all ok. Spuds and leeks not too good.
All in all could be alot worse, hoping we are over the worst now.
Went to town for hubbies V.Day card and came home with more onions, spuds and blueberry/raspberry bushes £1 bargains, forgot the card though- oops!

          • Potted up 7 chocolate habaneros, 11 dorset nagas, 6 hot banana and 6 scotch bonnet chilli plants into 3in pots. All getting second set of true leaves. I have more germinated (about 40 plants) and 26 varieties I haven't sown yet. I started off sowing 6 seeds of each, but have now cut down to 3. Some 'left overs' will be sold for fund raising at the Easter Fayre, and others will be given to friends. I hope I get the permission for the small polytunnel so some can go in there.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

              • Swung by the '99p shop' and poundland for some bargains.

Hinomaki Red Gooseberry bush 99p, and the following were 1 whole pound; pentland javelin tubers, some hosta and hollyhock seeds, two packs of fleece and 2 packs of potato fertiliser, and a pack of 5 seed trays.

Day off tomo to get it all sown/sorted.

                • Dug out my 91 yr old dad's old propogator and fired it up with a few Ferline and Sungold tomatoes,4 kinds of chillies( red and yellow scotch bonnet, ring of fire, habanero),a few broad beans and lettuce. Put last year's parsnip seeds on some wet kitchen paper in a plastic tub, to see if any are still viable.
Seed potatoes from Thompson and Morgan still haven't arrived, itching to put a few earlies in the poly.

                        • Today I posted two letters to local allotment organisations and had an email from one, after finally receiving their contact details from my local council.

The tangled web of who to contact regarding allotments in this town finally unravels.

Plus sown Red Acre Cabbage and tonight will be sowing Garden Pearl Toms.

                              • Cleared part of the veg patch ready for summat - don't know what yet! Potatoes, broadies, maybe. Also worked my way into the bramble patch to find some fruit bushes that I knew were in there. Lots of the brambles are now in a big heap, drying out ready for a bonfire.
