  • My latest seed order arrived (which I didn't really need), so can we just skip work tomo and go straight to Saturday when I can get more sowing done.

Also need to build the new greenhouse at somepoint.

Anybody know how to make 8 days in a week?!?

    • (Yesterday) Spent my lunch break buying more seed potatoes (I'm sorry but it's rather addictive ) and some used jute potato sacks. Then pottered on down to Lidl and bought a tray of box hedging plants. Spent the evening reading the internet on how to grow on the said plants and when to take cuttings.

        • After work I dug over an area about 5 foot by 4 foot and cleared raspberry canes from a similar area and planted 'long canes' straight away.
Stuck a few supports around the edge but will make a better job of it another time (ran out of daylight)

                  • Yesterday, home from work early as OH had scan at hospital. When we got back, finished cleaning out the greenhouse; planted some tomatoes and cucumbers, sweet peas, campanulas (in modules) and leeks. Repotted begonia corms from last year ... will they grow? They've got two chances. It feels really good to make a proper start!

                      • I'm not long and red Thelma, but I hope part of that description applies to me!

Sowed Calabrese, Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kale, Beetroot, Spring Onions, African Marigolds and trying some Coriander, although I know it's early. They're all in the stayput which is minus one pane until tomorrow, but I've shut the door and it's not cold so hopefully there'll be enough warmth for germination.

                        • Potted on surviving autumn sown Dwarf Lupin seedlings. Everything sown last week is starting to show (Yay! We're Off!!!). Divided some perennials dug up from my mums garden and potted them on. - Now have twelve pots of a rather nice green/white Sedum and eight pots containing some thing whose name escapes me Clumping, four feet tall, masses of lilac blue bell-like flowers in June/July. - any ideas? It's not Campanula - think it begins with "E"....or possibly.."V"??....
                          Weeded another bed.

                            • At the plot I put up a plastic cold frame to warm up a patch of soil. It was pretty windy, so I put broken bits of paving over the bottom edges, hopefully to stop it blowing away. I also sowed some more spinach (as per Gertrud Franck) and some carrots between the garlic which is looking great. The surface soil is very dusty already . I've worked out how I'm going to plant (most ) of my seed potatoes. I want the space in the GH, so I might plant them next weekend depending on the weather.
In the greenhouse I pricked out some plug plants of lobelia and petunia I bought during the week and generally watered and had a bit of a tidy again. The spring onions, long red florence onions, kohl rabi and beetroot, all in modules, spent the day outside hardening off, but I'm putting them back in the GH tonight.
I just got back indors for a cuppa, but I'm contemplating going back into the GH before dinner.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
