  • Weeded the onion shallot and garlic patch. May have decapitated a few shallots in the process. Got really agitated with the damned weeds. And the smell! Wow, the smell of growing garlic. Harvested more valdor winter lettuce for ma and pops.

Ma moved the red cardinal spinach from my bit to her little patch, and took the hoe of me to clear her patch.

Poo'd the curcurbit patch, and wanted to swear at clay.

Had a nice chat with the lotment legend.

I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

              • Phew!!! Where do I start? Busy day at allotment today.
Prior to attending the AGM at 12 noon I had to try and relocate Sid the cockerel and his harim from a greenhouse they have been housed in all winter.
First of all I had to share out the space evenly by taking four brown hens and adding them to 2 whites and a brown in a biggish run. The cockerel did his job in breaking up any squabbling and all went well.
Next I herded another cockerel and nhis three white and one brown into a smaller run and made it secure.
Next i cleaned out the now vacant hexagon coop and run ready to recieve Sid and his harim of 5 white hens.
Then came the interesting bit............catching Sid Vicious!!!!! He is a huge cockerel with massive spurs and an attitude. As I entered the run he tried to attack me as he always does so I didn't need chase him............he chased me. Armed with welding gauntlets I managed to get a hold of him but he was struggling so much I hung him upside down by the feet supporting his neck and head with my other hand as he's such a weighty bird i could have dislocated his legs.
With sis safely relocated the hardest bit was catching his harim as they were more agile than Sid.
In the end I got them all esconsed in there new home and he was crowing like a goodun to assert himself.

I then attended the AGM which didn't throw up any surprises thank goodness.

After the AGM I proceeded to demolish the 10' X 12' wooden framed greenhouse the chooks were housed in. It was a bit of an eyesore and I have an aluminium greenhouse ready to go in its place. The panes of glass were huge and luckily I had donned the welding gauntles i had for sorting Sid. the wind caught hild of one 5' X 2'6" pane of glass that Iwas carying and it shattered in my hands! As I have all new glass for my aluminium greenhouse I decided the safeat way was to break all the glass in situ then demolish the wooden frame with the help of an axe and a crowbar.
Luckily there is a skip on site I coul;d dump all the btoken glass into.
As the edge of the greenhouse formed the boandary between myself and the next plot I had to make use of corrugated tin sheeting I had lying about to extend the fenceline where the greenhouse had been.
My neighbour free ranges his chickens and i didn't want them on my plots which have quite a bit growing in them.
                Back home now....................shattered!

                • Today the garden/lottie broke me... or so it feels. I dug over the raised beds, added more compost, manure etc. Planted my runner beans in 2 trugs, planted pea seeds in green house, along with leeks, spings onions, brocolli, peppers and took a risk planting 5 different types of tomatoes. I have also planted several flower seeds, instead of buying plugs. With these i intend to sell them at a car boot and give them to friends.
This little lot took me 4 hours and it feels i need a new spine! but how i love it xx

                      • I love Lady Christl. I took my chitted seed potatoes up to the plot so my son can plant them during the week. While there I spent most of the time picking veg for the coming week, but also started tidying the strawberry bed. I did take off all the runners at one point last year, and they promptly grew more. Problem is, I've 3 types, and it's hard to work out which is which.
When I took the lid off the compost bins, there was definite heat, so I forked it over a bit. I wasn't pleased though, a toddler ran off from his mum, straight across my dug beds. Lucky he didn't trip over the marking strings. She didn't even apologise I suppose his brother at least kept to my paths.

                        • - Dug up some a 1m square patch of grass to turn into a raised bed ( who needs grass any way? ).

                          - Planted some onion sets that a i got for 50p Reduced in Pound stretcher last week - they should have been planted last Sep but I thought I could use them as spring onions.

                          - Planted some sprouted Daffodil bulbs in some old buckets that someone found in their garage - They are really small but hopfully they will grow and charge up ready to be planted into beds in Oct.

                          - Smiled alot at spending a beautiful day in te garden!

                          • Mulched strawb bed and a new path, weeded and dug a little, but very wet. In the poly sowed rocket and some chitted Rocket spuds in bags, did a little jig when I noticed the Swifts I put in in a rash moment in Feb are starting to show.
Lovely lovely day, sat on my bench in the sunshine and drank a cuppa - fab

                            • Went to B&Q @ 7am,bought 10 growbags @ £1 each, bargain & good stuff, dropped it off at Lottie before taking car in for MOT, had a mosey into town for a couple of hours while it was getting done. Spent £16 on garden tat in Poundland (How I can spend that amount on tat is beyond me). Anyhows, picked car up, went down to lottie. Filled a couple of half barrels with said compost ready for carrots and ****nips Built a suspended shelf for GH ~(see separate thread). Put up a couple of hanging baskets on fruit cage with some kind of mixed seeds that's supposed to attract bees (we'll see). Checked seedlings were ok then came home.
