Hoed off two flower borders and did some planting. Cleaned the chicken hut and dealt with another death.

Last night I inspected the new water butt just arrived. Looks good.
Move seedlings indoor and watered a few things.
This morning moved seedling outdoor.
Thinking about tomorrow installing the water butt at the fron garden. Got to buy one or two concrete slabs from the local shop.

Turned over the bed where I intend to put my sweetcorn, incorporating plain cardboard and the first grass cuttings of the year. A robin kept me company nearly the whole time I was doing it. It's a raised bed and in parts was very dry so the poor little thing didn't get much! Going back outside after lunch to top dress with home made compost.

Took all day but finished filling up the bed *doesalittlejig* and rearranged everything else so I no longer have to shuffle sideways to get to the other end of the balcony.
It took all my mpc - 3x70L - as well as my own compost mixed in with used compost, to fill it, so I need to go haul some more over to fill the other container which is a third of its size. Tomorrow. Exhausted now.

Potted on about 50 Golsen Bear onion seedlings into modules. Dug over small area and planted about 30 onion sets that I'd grown on in a tray.
Started to prep my 'ratproof' bed for my swedes. Bed is about 5m long and 1m wde. Intend surrounding it with Marley pan tiles. I was given about 50 of these for my house extension roof but decided against using them. They are in the way at the allotment so I'll surround a bed with them to get them out of the way and go some way to ratproofing bed.My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Today I gave the front garden a mow, made four raised beds out of decking from B&Q (2.49 a length... Bargain) which I then placed around my four fruit trees. Into these I have planted three Asparagus crowns and 1 rhubarb crown each. Made four strawberry hanging baskets up, but have put these back under cover in preparation for the upcoming weather change!

- finally finished moving the builders' dumped topsoil onto the school beds

- watered all the new plantings (no rain due at all)
- planted out onion seedlings (Bedfordshire Champ looking much better than Ailsa Craig)
- moved germinated stuff out of props and into gh
- moved hardy annuals out of gh onto patio for hardening off (back in again at teatime)
- sowed more stuff in props
- watered & fed all the windowsill seedlings (chillies, tomatoes, fuchsias & pelargoniums)
- bought and used an awesome new bath pump to water the back garden
- collected a doggy bag of seaweed from the beach to make a plant tonic
- pulled the first strings of bindweed out - let this year's battle commence
- hard pruned school's last & biggest buddleja: is that hard for the plant or hard for the gardener?
- pruned the rose (MrsK will think I've killed it and throw a fit)
- barrowed all the shrub prunings into the wildlife garden, chucked behind trees as a mulch
- bought more pompom dahlias, will force for cuttings to increase my stockLast edited by Two_Sheds; 01-04-2012, 08:34 AM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
