Having used the last of the water from the butt last night we used rainwater from the dustbin butt to wash it out ~(tipped back onto spuds), put it back on its stand all nice and clean inside. Emptied a lot of stuff from the greenhouse, swept up the floor, watering a lot of seedlings from the bottom while all this was going in. Replace all the empty clean pots, neatly stacked and have made myself a temporary potting tray using my very large progagator base lined with a cut up compost sack. I left a large overhang at the back so that if I have to stop I can cover up the compost to keep it moist. All looks very tidy now.

Been in all day - it's cold and cloudy, but decided I couldn't go back to work tomorrow knowing I hadn't weeded the bed I need for bras. So I went out at 3 and I've done it. The weeds were easy to pull out because the soil is so friable. Mind you, that's an indication they'll have to be well firmed in. Covered the area with chicken wire to keep the pussies at bay.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Sowed some scorzenora, rainbow chard, fennel, wong bok.
Spritzed around with some milk water for mildew here and there.
Sorted out the seeds to sow next two months. Put seeds in freezer, heard it was good for prolonging lifespan, but then read something that warned off it and so scrammed quickly to get them out again and back in the cold kitchen pantry.

Potted on some either Wellington or Trafalgar brussel sprouts (can't rmenber which!) One of my brassica labels was illegible but finally worked out by going through my seed packets they were Calabrese, should have known by the leaf shape, but anyway I potted them up.
Off work tomorrow so hopefully will get a bit more done at the lottie. My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Went to the coventry garden centre-makes me feel like a kid in a sweet shop-after school. Picked up canes, that when I got to the plot were six foot and not eight. Don't matter, I can still use them. So my Runner bean thingy won't be normal. Went to wilkos and got some bulbs and things for summer.

I'm not too sure, Petal! I just picked it up and hoped they'd be the same. I still plan to make the runner bean frame, but with the smaller ones just wigwam around the long ones. That made sense in my head! I should have twigged when I could reach the top of the six foot canes at full stretch ^_^

Went to garden centre and bought Courgettes (Sunstripe), Sweetcorn (Extra Tender and Sweet), Melon (Ogen), Cucumber (Tiffany), Climbing French Beans (Cobra) and Mini Pepper (Piccante). Got the French Beans and Sweetcorn chitting in the kitchen and will get the rest in tomorrow.
Went up to the lottie as I didn't get up there yesterday. Did a bit of watering. Thrilled to see my first spud shoot poking through the mulch of grass clippings. Had a bit of a panic as frost is a possibility over the next few days, then breathed again as I remembered the bag full of riddled out spent compost, so used that to earth up. (I will probably always be a day late here...)
Started the aubergine (black beauty) seeds, chilli and anaheim peppers seeds.
Though I told myself to pay attention, I completely forgot which seed was placed where in the propagator, so will need to post pictures when the leaves start in order to label them.
Baked a loaf of whole wheat bread.
Verified the broad beans survived the frost.
Observed the chickens had destroyed the flower bed...again.Last edited by MyLifeWithAndrew; 03-04-2012, 09:10 AM.My Very Bleak Garden Blog

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Went to lottie in a blizzard. Battened down the hatches, moved my toms, cukes and peppers back into my other greenhouse and put them high on a shelf, hopefully to avoid any groundfrost. Lot the woodburner to thaw the greenhouse out a bit.
I window frame had fallen on my poor rhubarb and flattened it! Shifted it to another place (window pane that is)
Stuck some perspex sheets along one of my chicken run to give them a bit of protedtion from the blizzard. My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order

Cut grass back and front at home then went up to the lottie with a tray of chitting runner beans - dead smug cos they're ones I saved from TWO years ago. Planted up ones that are showing roots (6x6 modules). Sowed some of all the seeds I bought yesterday (cukes, chillies, melon etc).
Planted out some module grown Beetroot, Red Veined Sorrel and direct sowed a short row of Radish.
Bought more paraffin. Will take it up in a min and tuck everyone up for the night. When the Devil gives you Cowpats - make Satanic Compost!
