What I did today 2012-2014

Managed to pot on 4 courgettes and 4 pumpkins after work before it absolutely pelted it down. Still pouring now, but plants are nestled on the warm windowsills looking smug.

Last night I sowed some herbs, basil,parsley and corainder which I will hsare with the pub for its garden project. Checked on the greenhouse veg and the tomatoes and beans looked ok under fleece so maybe an get more out to slowly harden off rather than staing in our over warm house. Night time temps in the greenhouse were 9 degrees which is a high for the year! seemed very mild last night.

Only some weeding plus the usual emptying the GH of trays of loo roll runners/pole beans to harden off then moving my toms in there for the day.
Like Brentalist I could have left my toms out last night the lowest temp was a whopping 11.9c. the warmest yet this year.

Yes recorded 11.6c here in Plymouth and inside the greenhouse it was 13c..........condensation though big time but the babies seem happy

Rescued Marrow from pot as it looked wilted - thought because I’d over watered it but now not so sure… soil at bottom didn’t seem wet when I transplanted it to garden. Maybe he fee I used?… Put it in garden to let Nature take over, have more of a chance of recovery.. Whatever is ailing it. Pumpkin seems to be okay and thriving still in pot with new shoots and leaves developing.
More rain? Really? Had a sunny warm day yesterday and still humidly warm today, but more rain…

I've planted out my toms in the GH border they were getting to big to carry into the house every night, I'll be out there with the fleece later on.

Planted out my runner beans into their prepared bed. Some of them had grown quite tall so in they went. I have wound fleece round them so hopefully they'll survive.
I've just remembered though that I meant to sow a bean seed at the base of each plant as well in the hope that I can extend the season. Luv me beans!!

Potted up some snapdragons, stock, marigolds, black eyed susan and forget me knots which promptly wilted before I had time to bring them back in (had no idea my bathroom was 'that' warm!!). Also potted on some chervil and fennel. Earthed up tatties, both bags are now poking their heads up so Im quite chuffed! Liberally sprinkled blue pellets around everything and laughed at dead slug in catmint tub who obviously partook of said pellets (harr harr!).
I think my swiss chard and peas are starting to come up although as its my first year GYOing I think the weeds will get to stick around quite a while.....til Im totally sure Im not pulling up an edible!
Tomorrows plan will be to hunt out all the russian vine shoots (blimmin' stuff) and move the brassica bed out into the open to free up the cloche....amazing how much better everything seems when the sn shines though!!

Potted on my courgettes and cucumbers then I nipped out to buy more canes for my beans.

A day of rain and bright periods. In the bright periods I weeded and dug a 4 foot wide bed about 12 foot long and planted 22 Kestrel seed tatties I had left.
In the rainy periods I went indoors to the greenhouse, lit the woodburner and sowed one tray each of climbing french beans and dwarf french beans. Still have two other trays of yellow dwarf beand and another variety to sow but I couldn't be arsed at the mo!

Went out the front and....

mowed, weeded, trimmed, dug up the purple sprouting broccoli, planted mangetout, planted purple bush beans, talked neighbour through everything out there and promised him some garlic when it matures, came in and collapsed in an exhausted heap.

Then another neighbour popped over to say how nice it looked which was lovely of her.

Between bouts of rain, i nipped into growhouse/tunnel and potted on some mangetout where they shall remain, at least for a while longer. 7 morries buckets now full of mangetout climbing up canes which i tied together at the top to form an obelisk shape. Sowed some oriental veg seed. Watered other seedlings.

Went to collect a potting bench from a friend that bought me it in the B&Q sale (was £30, sold for £5!). Ever so chuffed that she thought of me, so shared some squashes and tomato seeds I got in the post with her!
