  • Today I was up at the snippet of dawn and down to the lotty before work, to do some planting out. I planted out some broadbeans and repotted some corn. Watered raspberries and fruit bushes. Watered stuff still cosseted in greenhouse and was excited to see herbs growing-- dill, marjoram, sage... have no excuse now when OH says "have we got..."
Back to lotty tomorrow a.m. to plant out more beans and try to sort netting for brassies.

    • Filled some new 40 litre tub trugs with home made compost and topped up with coir and multi purpose compost. Then i rigged up a bit of fencing using some unused-right now mesh shelving from the upright growhouses. Planted home grown herbs in some of them. Found the necessary bits to get my garden hose up and running for the first time this year and cleaned the patio area. Harvested a small saucepan full of first early spuds, well worth the wait!

      • Planted my beans out. I would have waited but mr janeyo has been helpfully going down and shutting the g/h up for me each eveing for the past week or so and then I discover he has not been putting them all back in for the night - so they are hardened off anyway!

That's about as energetic as I can manage

          • This morning put out some cabbages and noticed that once they were in the ground, it seemed like a zillion cabbage whites went flying by !
            Watered everything. Again.
Had a chat with neighbour, gave him some marigolds and jeruselem artichokes. He gave me cantaloupe melon seedling in exchange.

                • Took quite a few things to lottie to plant but it was too hot and I reckon they would have withered so brought them home again. Did some weeding and earthed up potatoes. Put some netting over my strawberry bed which is looking very promising as are the over wintered onions and garlic.

Some of my parsnip seedlings have fried.

My parsley for some reason is a hotbed of ladybird passion. I had to wait for them to finish before I could bring some home!

It's rinsing in a bowl of water as I type.

                  • Put up some bamboo trellis against the balcony rails, which provides some shade - not much! - but some, to the bed opposite. Will eventually have another bed under them but too hot to do all that back-n-forth with the compost mixture. Which will eventually house the toms that are hogging my windowsill.

Haven't been doing much besides fighting aphids daily - why didn't I know about enviromesh before I started?! - and haven't sown anything more because I found out I may be moving country again. When I finally felt settled. And started a garden! Feeling a wee bit blue.

Still, everything's looking green and lush and delicious. Salivating already at the thought of harvest time.

                    • - tied in all the stoopid peas again, that keep falling off their chickenwire
                      - planted out loads of French beans & pumpkins, sunflowers & hyssop
                      - frantically trying to keep all the new seedlings watered in this hot heat
                      - started chitting more French beans, because I don't think 150 are enough

enough for what?? are you a bean farmer?

-made up another large herb planter (chives, sage, chamomile and thyme).
-planted some more stuff in my borders. Sedum, lavender, yarrow and ornamental grass in the problem border (full sun, mainly gravel) and cornflower, forget me knots, stock, alpine strawberries and dwarf kale in t'other.
-planted out some of the brassicas in their bed. brussells and kale, with a borrage plant plonked in the middle! Still waiting for the PSB to be big enough to plant out.
-moved pea and chard tubs to sunnier spot.
-picked jaw up off of floor after I checked out my mini salad trays! (they have contained these long, leggy weedy seedlings for over a month and suddenly after abit of sunshine they look like mini lettuces! Yippee!

I think tomorrow Im going to plant out the beans and courgettes too.

                        • Planted out the rest of my dwarf peas. Put almost all the tomatoes out of the stayput against the fence in their final buckets. Potted on cauliflower, sprouts and cabbage - it's not going in the ground yet as snail/slug fodder. Potted on some Bizzie Lizzie that arrived today as replacements from T & M (the first lot were root bound and they've kindly replaced them). Youngest Golden Girl went round the onions snipping off seed heads. Got back ache now, but it feels good!

                          • Planted out a tray full of Ruby swedes and a tray full of Marian swedes. Covered them the best I could to stave off pest attacks.
Lots of watering required in greenhouses as its been a warm day and stuff was wilting.

                            • Watered. Repotted some herbs after dividing them. Mowed part of the lawns. Topped up the compost heap. Topped up my tan/red areas. Finished a polytunnel too tired to plant it! So read GYO mag under the shade of the big trees.
