  • I have a patio! Under all the trays, pots and containers is a perfectly useable, if somewhat scruffy paved area for me to put out my table and chairs tomorrow. I have, however, no side path now.

    • Planted out the last of my brussel sprouts in the same netted area that the rats (I presume) demolished my other seven plants in one night!
This time they are not only netted but a short length of drainage pipe has been placed arouund each and a rat trap placed in among them. Fingers crossed. The trap has been sprung two nights running, (one time it was found eight foot away from where I set it)Hopefully if it hasn't killed the rat at least its frightened it enough to stay away.

Planted out nine sunfloer plants intwo's and three's around the plot. Planted out some sweet peas along the other side of a mesh planted with broad beans. Planted three remaining plants at the bottom of a three cane wigwam.
Planted out some red firenze torpedo onions.

Done loads of watering with the watering can from the water butts.

Set out various plants to harden off.

      • Planted out my hardened off french and runner beans. Typically the wind has now picked up so I'm hoping they don't get too battered.
Planted the rest of the tomatoes in growbeds in the culticave at the plot. Some are looking a bit starved but have flower buds showing, so I'm hoping they pick up a bit.
Removed the bottle cloches from the sweetcorn, squash and courgettes, I was worried about them cooking. Now I'm worried about them scorching from the wind.!
Started clipping the grass paths with my long handled clippers from the boot fair (£2.50 for Stanley ones). Bought the grass home for chickens and guinea pigs. A plotholder next to me has a petrol lawnmower and strimmer, so his looks immaculate .
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

        • Watered everything as it has been 28 C up here in the lakes Love inspecting everything, gooseberries starting to swell, sweetcorn, (minipop) looking healthy, never grown it before. All of the three different types of peas growing inches each day at the moment. Even the runner and dwarf beans are surviving this year, happy, happy, happy!

            • Made a smaller raised bed at the far corner, filled it mostly with ericaceous except for a patch at one corner for the blackberry. Moved the smaller blueberry there, since the bigger one is growing much faster and bigger than expected and was already encroaching on the smaller one's space.

              • Bought plants! Bay, lemon verbena, chocolate peppermint, and French tarragon.

Also put my runner beans out for a while to start hardening off. I think they grew about two inches today.
                March is the new winter.

                  • Took delivery of my decking for raised beds for asparagus and strawberries. Gutted to find about 24 bindweed plants just where we are planning our raised asparagus bed. OH dug down almost to Australia to dig out the roots. Sprayed with weedkiller. But will it work as so hot. Potted on various veggies which hopefull can be planted out tomorrow. Cautiously optimistic as kale, PSB and broccoli have seedlings. Now have about 50 asparagus plants - what was I thinking about? So hot squash are wilting but they are in the shade. Found some Uchiki Kuri lurking in my seed box and planted out. In date. Cannot remember buying them. Need to sort out my seeds.

                      • Met with Zaz - planted one half of the polytunnel up which was great at last. Feels like we are getting there with the middle bit of the garden. Resuscitated my celery plants. Watered, watered and watered some more.

                        • Potted on two of my chilli plants, potted on one of my bro's tomato plants (because I wanted the pot that it was in - one of the tall, square ones that you usually buy currant bushes in), took off my fattest pea pod to see how they're doing and then ate the contents while still stood in the greenhouse pulled up a carrot to see how they're doing (the result is shown in another thread) and pulled a baby spring onion to see how they're doing...still skinny little things but tasted surprisingly sweet.
Watered everything and put more Nemaslug™ down on the raised bed.
Tried and Tested...but the results are inconclusive

Potted on my Greyhound cabbage seedlings
Transferred some purple spring onions from pots to beds
Transplanted beans from Rootrainers to beds
Sowed some Kinghorn Wax beans directly
                            Sowed some Early onwards peas
Moved 3 Totem tomato plants from pots to a grow bag...

                              • Dominic10 - your OH should have dug all the way to Australia - we could have given him a cup of tea - comfrey, nettle or manure?
Did nothing in the garden yesterday. Too windy and cold. Everything not weighed down is pressed up against the east fence....wind was from the west!
After my slothful week this week someone is coming to borrow my electric fencing to see if it's what they need. So now I'll need to have a quick clean up instead of another slothful morning! I need a magic wand. Anyone seen one on special?
