      • We had sun for once so put up wigwams for the cucumbers, sowed spinach, rocket and lettuces, and planted out some violas. OH made a start on the worst remaining weed patch.

Oh, and did a little happy dance that one of my Moonbeam patty pan squash has FINALLY germinated.
        March is the new winter.

          • This morning I sorted my tomatoes out in the "tomato greenhouse" as its now been nick named for this year. I have a few spares in the blue boxes so I'm kinda thinking about putting in a centre row if I could fit in to water and pick them!!

            • Didnt do much as Im between nightshifts. Also it peed down pretty much all day!
I did wander around the garden a couple of times squashing slugs and giving snails flying lessons. Was chuffed to discover that the water lily I bought for my little plastic planter pond was putting up new leaves. Bought a tomato plant home too as someone at work had left a big tray of spares in the staff room, so now I have a cherokee purple to add to the other 3 Ive got!! woop!
Most things survived the torrential rain, all except a few lettuce seedlings that were smooshed...

              • Only spent about 5 mins in garden today, checked in plackytunnel to make sure the toms and squash i potted on yesterday were ok. They looked fine. Dodged big dollops of rain as best i could to get back inside the house where it was warmer and a hell of a lot drier. On the upside, 2 x 100 litre water butts are now filled to the brim though i had emptied both of them a couple of days ago. Hoorah for the rain, but can it stop now please?

                • We had a fairly productive day today. Got my swede, broccoli, cauliflower, sprouts and celery planted out. Built cages for the brassicas, planted some echinacea in a pot, tried them straight into the ground last year and nothing came up so fingers crossed.

Transplanted my spring onions into troughs, sowed carrots and root parsley.

                  • Dead-headed more lilac. Planted trailing bellflower (campanula) in hanging basket. Cut back brambles and clematis. (Should have pruned Clematis way back and always forget) Checked and pruned old rose (only dead wood not full pruning ). Has black spot on leaves so removed yellow ones and have to make mental note to spray with (thanks to :
ROSE BLACKSPOT - symptoms, cause and treatment

“There is a mixture which is not approved by our masters in Brussels. If you happen to spill four level teaspoonsful of Baking Soda, a few drops of washing-up liquid and a desert spoonful of soluble fertilizer into half a jar of water which become shaken together and topple over into a gallon of water in a sprayer, then as you dispose of them accidents do happen so the roses may become covered with the spray!! It's not really carelessness if this happens every two weeks.”

Weeded dock leaves and dandelions from path
Planted French Runner Beans (Algarve) in two large containers outside kitchen door.
Then ....MORE rain *sighs*..gave up and came in for a cake and a cuppa

                    • More digging, more weeding. Planted out parsley, summer and winter savory, lemon verbena and pineapple sage in a fit of optimism.

                      • Asked Pop's to put my raised beds together-I seriously don't have any construction skills, I am not regressing feminism or anything.

Moved the three beds down to the lotment. Lined them with newspaper.

Newspaper mulched the squashes and tomatos.

snapped the would be flower heads off bolted onions. Harvested one shenshyu, raised aloft and waved it as I entered the kitchen whilst uttering the words 'Ma look what I did.' Ma then used it to make tarka for yellow Dahl.

                        • Weeded paving stones until too tired to do any more. Sowed more PSB and sprouts, even though I know it's very late, the snugs ate all the last lot. Worth a try. Transplanted Little Gem and a couple of squashes. Hoed between the onions. Nipped tops off broad beans. Cut the grass in front of the stayput and around the beds with shears because the lawn mower can't get near enough. Poured salt water in the weeded ground near the fence at the front of the house. Sowed the lemon basil free this month with GYO, into the prop on the windowsill.

                            • Yesterday, planted out the rest of the leeks - that's 100 now, that should do since it is only me who actually likes them! Leek and potato soup though .... mmmmmm. Did lots and lots of weeding, put sticks in the peas that survived the best efforts of the weevil. Planted some more peas down the other end of the 2nd plot - maybe the weevil won't go that far? Cleared paths and put the wilted stuff I cleared on Saturday into the dalek. Strawed the new strawberries. These are the babies grown from runners on my main patch. They are fruiting, more than I expected, but also sending out runners before they have fruited? So pinched all of those off. Gazed hungrily at the broad beans - another 2-3 days and I may be able to have a taste. Picked more radish. The lack of rain over the last couple of weeks has made them go a bit woody. The rain on Sunday has done everything a power of good!

Planted dwarf French Beans - Annabelle
Planted out some celeriac plants that have been hardening off in the cold frame
Moved out the tomato plants from the window bottom into the potting shed (has a skylight roof so I'm hoping there's enough sunshine coming through for them).
