  • Potted another 8 tomatoes into their final buckets. Potted on some chillies. Killed/squashed/crunched several snugs in the stayput that have demolished what was a huge chillie. Youngest son came this morning and cut the grass for me, now all I have to do tomorrow is go round the beds and tubs with the long handled shears.

    • Yesterday, tied in my French beans and got properly depressed about the state of things, the weather, and life in general.

Today, decided I wasn't giving up yet so I've ordered some cloches for squash/courgettes, wrapped some fleece around the cucumber teepees and planted my tomatoes into their big pots. Fingers crossed.

      • Picked last of first sowing of broad beans and pulled out plants to make space for transplants of PSB and swede.

        Harvested lettuce.

Swore because social schedule didn't allow me to spend more time in the garden.

        • Nothing like a good swear to make the plants grow loudbarker!
I got to the tip this morning - hallalujah! Then did about 5 loads of washing.
Did some work on the blog with son.
Finally got stuck into the whippersnipping. Have a sore shoulder now but at least my hand has stopped trembling from the vibration....enough to hold a glass of wine anyways.
Only got 1/3 of the yard done, but it's a start. Got the boy to reach down the snow peas (mange tout) and give them a good seaweed/fertiliser drink and put them back up. Got carried away and gave the cabbages and the lone leek some as well!
Then put dinner on and after daughter rode the horse helped her feed and rug the oldies.
Not a bad start to the week, but I'm not going to get back into the garden again till friday which is a shame.

          • Yesterday - planted out more young plants to final positions, potted some toms to final tubs, sowed rainbow chard and radicchio, scrubbed out pots and seed trays for the next batch of sowings (winter stuff), cleaned up the greenhouses, weeded out the cold frames, routine maintenance on the cloches and snapped 2 prongs off my fork preparing a bed for some kohlrabi (God only knows how I managed that!).

                • Gave all the veggies a foliar feed with some seaweed in hopes of perking them up a bit.

Do they make foliar feed for humans?

Sowed parsnip seed I've sprouted in the airing cupboard. First time for this method and second sowing of parsnip because the first lot didn't germinate. Sowed Pak Choi and Garlic Chives. Furtled round the garlic. Rubbish.

                      • Built an experimental bean frame and planted out the remainder of the beans.
Planted the rest of the squashes out with yogurt pot protection against slugs. Will tell you more if it works

                          Sounds about right.

And I sowed some more cucumbers on the theory that threatening them with replacements will make the current lot sit up and behave.

                          • Harvested my pot grown garlic. Think I had probably left them too long as the rosette of cloves on some of them had opened up and the outer covering had rotted. What was evident was that the GC bought stuff didn't perform as well as Tesco's finest.
Shall start eating my japanese onions now as they are bulbing up nicely and I know from experience that they won't keep.

                            • Sowed several seeds to be ready if I do manage to get my plot by the end of this month.

                              Put in :

                              Peas - Kelvedon Wonder

                              Spring Onions - White Lisbon

                              Basil - Minette

                              Pumpkin - Jack 'O Lantern

                              Pumpkin - Mammoth

                              Carrot - Paris Market

Drenched them well and put in the blow away to germinate.

Never planted any of these veggies before (except Basil, and that failed miserably) so I hope I will be more successful now I have found this forum for advice.
