  • Went down to the lottie, and gawped at the sheer quantity of water that's fallen out the sky in the last two days (my wheelbarrow was over half full! It was empty on saturday!)

Didn't do much down there, as the clouds were drawing back in for another go, just planted out some onion sets- might be early, but I'm trying a few different sorts, and I already had them- and a few cloves of elephant garlic, and did a little bit of weeding.

    • Yesterday planted lots of garlic through weed fabric (my fierce battle against weeding continues!)

Today used some poly carbonate sheeting from a job we did a couple of weeks ago to replace the entirely holey cover on my blow away!

If I don't fall asleep with my face on the keyboard in the next half hour then I'm hoping to make some bread and butter pickles tonight with all the cukes I picked yesterday!

A far more productive weekend than normal!

      • Put off collecting the pumpkins and squashes for one more day as the sun was shining. It's going to be a rush when the weather bint tells of frost is forthcoming in our area.

        Cheers, Tony.

        • - brought a few more pumpkins home
          - shelled the beans that have dried out completely (on newspaper, in house)
          - selected the best beans for next year's sowings
          - cut more ripening beans, to hang upside down in the shed/greenhouse to dry out
          - took out lots of canes for winter storage
          - chopped up the bean & squash foliage, left it on soil as a mulch

          • Sown more green manure. Weeded, membraned and rechipped some paths. Took a drive to GO @ Ryton and bought seeds in the sale. Whoops

            • Dragged number 1 son around to show him the garden. He took photos for me so will put them on the blog soon.
Sowed some seeds in the new garden beds, and into modules. Wondered why the compost is so water resistant. Seems odd.

Made rhubarb and apple crumble (but not with my produce yet.....)

The rain we had for a couple of days has really soaked in and expect the plants to take off now. Altho the grass will as well and I've killed the mower again

Very happy to be out in the garden again.

                Picked runner beans.

                That's it!

Pulled up some spent cucumber plants
                  Composted some spent tomato plants
Bagged up my dried red and white onions
Chopped up some nettles and spread them over beds...

                          • Planted polytunnel garlic, spread more leaf mold, bagged the rest, started another compost pile, harvested the peppers, trimmed up the herbs, moved tender ones inside said poly, moved all pots to washing corner of garden, emptied out some pots, made terracotta crock pile, put olives and myrtle undercover after tidying their soil tops and emptied the greenhouse! Mr VVG hoovered it out for me as tomorrow I will be getting out the eau de ***** fluid for a thorough scrub down. Now bath time!

                            • Day off today, so....

Did a bit more work on my RHS Diploma that I've started.

                              Got in the garden and;
pulled up the baby sweetcorn and a few courgettes/squashes
                              raked and weeded said area
chucked in some onion sets (sensheyu and electric), garlic (wilkos) and elephant garlic
                              harvested a tub of chillis
harvested a box of cosse violet beans
harvested a few tiny aubergines (about 2 inches long)
harvested lots of baby courgettes from the above plants (I suppose I could have left them but wanted to get the onions and garlic in on my day off).

Off to give blood in a bit.

                              • Got the ***** Fluid out and scrubbed out the greenhouse. Did the outside too - algae and moss are off. Polytunnel got washed down outside with Citrox. May leave the inside until over winter. Sulphur candle tomorrow as I have forgotten to set it tonight.
