Sowed celeriac, onion Long Red Florence (kept saying I'd give these a go, so pleased with this), red cabbage and some toms, Black Russian (hope these germinate, I'm growing them for someone at work), Sungold and Roma. Also sowed the three apple pips the youngest GG saved for me from her lunch last week.

Planted broad beans in toilet rolls and put in cold greenhouse. Crimson Flowered (self saved, T&M and bean circle). It will be interesting to see if there's any variation. I think I managed to isolate mine self saved ones as they were in the greenhouse gro-beds last year with no other broadies around (neigbours don't garden).
Also planted Jubilee Hysor. The Martock beans sowed in autumn at the lottie are looking patchy, but I put them in as green manure as they were damaged seed anyway so not too bothered. Will probably put some in for seed saving this year.I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.

Sowed some onions and have moved three more of my germinated tomato plants on to the window ledge. Black Krim, Debara Black and Salislaw Cafe.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Washed the inside of the polytunnel with the minimum amount of water. It looks fab and the improvement in light levels is amazing considering it didn't look that dirty when I started.
Found some more pussycat holes though. Grrrr.Last edited by marchogaeth; 11-02-2013, 06:08 PM."A life lived in fear is a life half lived."

Built a raised bed from old pallets then decided they looked a bit stark so fixed some of the pallet feet and another plank to make two wee planters on the outer edge for some herbs. The mint and feverfew have started growing so I may move them into thw new spots. When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Turned over the new soil in the raised beds, put up the pea netting, and netted over the frames around the beds. Lots of big fat hungry woodies in the trees behind the garden, so they ain't having my seedlings... Checked the heated prop, germination is a bit slower than I'd hoped, but then the plants should need less hardening off than those germinated indoors. Hopefully!

I took the heated propagator out of the greenhouse as the tomato and chilli seeds have done nothing in there so I've brought it inside. The tomato seedlings on the windowsill are growing quickly and are up to the lid of the propagator (unheated). I think I need to repot these asap.Likac66

Nothing outdoors as planned. I am minus the use of one thumb today so had to content myself with carefully pottering indoors and looking through my seed collection longinglyWhen weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
