I have those satisfying aches that tell me I've done something worthwhile for a change!! Hope to get another clearance day in tomorrow

    • A bit of a late and lethargic start as we had friends around last night...and they stayed longer than expected....sudden movements to be avoided if you know what I mean

..but I managed to get a few rows of broad beans seeds planted out direct to soil, though under cover of some cloches.

Sowed a mix if tomato seeds, 10 or so each of, Maskotka, Gardeners Delight, Alisa Craig and Sungold.

      Also some chillies/peppers, jalapeno and cayenne...about 30

Lifted leeks from one bed for the freezer as the bed is going to be needed shortly for other stuff.

      ...snoozed from about 4pm onwards

      • Continued digging out the area for my greenhouse. Its going to take a while. So far I've taken off the turf and started digging over the soil to get out big stones and big roots. There's a leylandii hedge on the north west side and a lonicera hedge on the north east side so lots of roots. I'll take out all the soil bit by bit and sieve it before putting it into the raised beds. Because I'm on a slope, once I get down to the chalk (about 9 inches down) I'll have to start leveling. I'll need to pick-axe out about another 9 inches of chalk at the top end of the slope and fill up at the bottom end. Hope my back holds out!

        • Built a new raised bed from pallets, moved existing beds around to fit it in. Will post pics later, as soon as KCN is done using my laptop.

Hit a wee snag on completion of the cold frame, as I was missing a few parts I had overlooked, so trawled into Aberdeen to pick up the stuff I needed.

While I was there, picked up some grass seed to replace my lawn, which appears dead.

          • Yup, me too.

Sore in places I had forgotten I own.

Meant to be taking girls rugby practice tomorrow at lunchtime. Could be really sore by tomorrow night!

            • I've cleared brambles, re lined the chook roof with the plastic on the inside of wire roof this time. Given chooks a really good clean out , scrubbing everything thoroughly for the first time in a while.;the sun was shining so I knew it would all dry and just had a really good clear out and tidy up of the garden .
Oh , and planted some snow drops and aconites. Left them in pots on advice of market man so they will clump up and be stronger to plant out next year, in to the ground.
Going to be aching along with the rest of you tomorrow. Good feeling though.

Why have a lawn when you can have more growing space...............

KCN (SWMBC) has this notion that it is not a garden unless you have some grass to wiggle your toes on once in a while...

                            • Couple of hours at allotment with Mr R and little ones, cooking sausages, digging, quick weed of asparagus bed. Next door lottie neighbour passed over a bag of mustard seed for green manure and lent us a gardening tool that I've never seen before (and have now forgotten name of) - it's fab and I'll have to post on that separately at some point.

                              Came home and sowed

Tomatoes - Ailsa Craig, Black Cherry, Fandango, St Pierre and Sweet Million
                              Potted on some dahlias.

Picked two celeriac, some leeks and the first lot of PSB.

                              • I'll be back later, you just reminded me to clean out my chicken house! Need to do that before I have a cold shower. Don't want to be having too many of them. Even Vic wouldn't be enough to warm me up.
