  • Nothing much this week since I'm working 4 days. Propogating herbs is my next trick tho.

    • Cleared more brambles.
Cut back the tops of the raspberry canes. How can I hope to pick something from a cane that's 7' tall
Signed up to the Orchard Cardiff Project to share any of my surplus fruit with the community - in return for help with picking and pressing the apples for juice. Better than letting them fall and rot, since the trees are too tall for me to pick.

        • Sowed some Mizuna in my cold frame, hoping it will sprout before the slug patrol arrives, and moved my strawberry plants (Aromel) to another bed to try and thwart their attempt at world domination.

          • Had to put some oca in pots as they were sprouting...yikes. Where to put the pots? More sowings and now off up to the lotty.

            • Went to lotty and Rockdust added to all beds except old fruit bed, last year's allium bed and the GF bed. Fed beds and hoed in. Fed o/w alliums. Moved old fruit bushes into new bed. Frees up the big bed again. Just need to pull out strawberries now. Got some more shallots in. All beds raked off. Saw a couple of folks up there and had a chat. One says she is copying our raised bed idea, which is nice to hear. The other was asking about our green manure/mulching and looks like they might start sowing it too All ideas gleaned here!
Banged in some stakes and tied in the loganberry - in fairness this was the male "we"

              • Went to work then out afterwards to buy compost and chicken poop. Thinking of taking a jolly to Ballater tomorrow aa there is a self build exhibition on.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

                  • Weeded garlic, shallots and leeks.
                    Cleared finished brassicas and weeded.
Put supports in for broad beans and a few pea sticks for the peas which have survived the slugs. All three of them

                    • I've been at the allotment since 8.30am today dug second bed removing top layer due to the couch grass and Docks there was also a load of old tarmac and stone chip to be dug out all in all took out more than I'd planed made a 10ft by 4ft raised bed and layered with card ready for some top soil to go in. I also dug out a hole to submerse a old bath in to fill with water and hopefully it will encourage frogs etc. All that after finishing a night shift
Today I will be mainly growing Vegetables.

Tonight The bloody slugs & snails will eat them!

                      • I salute you mrgrower for staying as long as you did!!!
I managed 3/4 hr down the allotment. Wanted to stay longer but still feeling tired from finishing 12hr nightshift!
Anyways managed to sow some salad leaves mixture in the poly beds.
Looked around and found in shed 2 cat litter trays I salvaged. With these I'm gonna sow some leek seeds into tomorrow after making a few holes in the bottom for drainage.

                        • Finally managed to get out into the garden to finish my wheely soil sifter using pallet wood. It took way longer and was much trickier to make than I thought it would but it works!

It's a very bodgy version of this:

DIY Home Made Simple Compost Screen Box - YouTube

Dug and sifted some more soil from where my greenhouse will go and put it on the onion bed. Then repaired some bird netting to cover the onion bed and planted out some pesandor shallots and red baron onion sets.

Harvested the last of my Kifli potatoes. I'm really pleased with how well they've kept in the ground over winter.

                          • I didn't get home until after 17:30 so all I did was put some slow release food around the new Oak tree and mix it in lightly with the soil.

                            • Sowed some seeds indoors in modules and cardboard boxes - can't remember what
Planted a potato in the bath - not exactly, but in a flower bucket that I left in the bath.
You know the old adage - Save water, share your bath with a spud
Think I'll go now before I say something else that's silly

                              • Bought some 29p seeds in lidl, somehow got a multibuy offer so they cost 25p each!
Looked at my seed potatoes wondering how long until I can plant them out, said hello to some new flower seedlings that have appeared.
