What I did today 2012-2014

Cleared and dug over the pea bed - it's very narrow so it was a trowel job. Forked in a bag of compost and then planted a line of violas along the edge. The peas are sprouting nicely in their guttering in the cold frame, so should be ready to go out in a week or two.

I'm very glad to report that even though I didn't get much at all by way of produce last year, all the digging and clearing of perennial weeds I did seems to have paid off. Muuuuuuch less ground elder this year.

I definitely still don't have the stamina I did before last year's illness - it was only a very small bed and I am absolutely knackered. Feels good though, like I've made a proper start.

Planted out some more broad beans and shallots. Also a few chard and Cima di rapa.
Planted out Early dwarf peas into GH bed.
Pricked out Drunken woman lettuce and Brussels sprouts. Filled some more modules and brought them indoors to warm up overnight while I think about what to sow in them
Noticed shoots emerging from the hop mound
Dodged the rain and did very little outdoors.

made a small patio
potted my strawberry runners into patio pots so the dog cant eat them all!!
got given a load of tools from my mum in law, some of which are probably antique!
got really chuffed to see the sun

Not as much as I would have liked in the garden cos the family were here for dinner. I made a bannoffi pie, planted spuds and went to the park with my gorgeous grandson.

Spuds in! Woohoo! At last!

Aside from a run to the dump in the morning spent the day getting spuds in. Had some help so 40 odd first earlies (rocket) and 35 odd main (desiree)... if you don't count a 3 and a half hour break for amazing dim sum, a trip to the nursey and then the R@nge! Awesome!

Created a raised ericaceous bed and filled it with heathers and azaleas. Ill post some pics tomorrow when its light outside. I also took my gladioli corms out of winter storage, about 1/3 of them had gone soft which isnt too bad. I have about 30 corms left to plant out =]

Sowed some pilgrims pumpkins.
Sowed some lettuce with an impossible italian name
Potted on my Madeiran fuschias
Potted up some courgettes
Potted up some crystal apple cucs
Played musical plants trying to find room for them all

We have created some edging to our plot this morning. Fencing poles are going in too. Break for lunch and then Mr VVG carries on alone whilst I plant out my wife's brassicas #wallaceandgromit

Yesterday I mostly got mild sunburn, planted up my sprouted Peas and helped relieve my plot neighbour of 70 strawberry runners as he was moving his bed which expanded my section to over 100 plants

Today is what I call half time day as I work four 12hr shifts. 2 days & 2 nights.
I got to the lottie early & sowed
1/2 row of Twinkle pea
1/2 row of Lincoln pea
Full row of Kelvedon wonder pea
In modules sowed Kent Blue pea.
Plain leaved coriander
Celeriac Monarch
Cos lettuce Paris Island
Aster mixed giant
Zinnias envy
Nice to see the sun out!

Checked on my carrots I planted in Feb (read the instructions as had never grown them before) and they are finally growing!

Today I scoffed my lunch really fast in order to get 45 mins digging a new area ready for roots. After 5 mins the phone rang and I had to down tools.

Hopefully the rain will hold off this evening so that I can continue where I started !
