    • Finally got the pond emptied, lifted it and turned it over to dry in the sun with the help of the OH. Did weeding, filled up green bin. Watered seedlings and herbs.

      • So far - pricked out spinach, sprouts, cabbage and kale. Potted on poached egg plants, sunflowers and cornflowers. Sowed Livingstone Daisies and two cwt pumpkins for GGs to carve. Like VVG, done a bit of shuffling in the stayput. Been ruthless with leggy tomato plants. Some have gone to compost, some I've cut and put in water (good tip that Colin) and others potted on. Fed garlic with last year's borage tea (thank you kindly VVG) and comfrey tea and it's not yet 4 O'clock. Still time to get on

        • Started the weeding of the border round my plot, relocating a few stray raspberry canes into gaps. Tidied away some scrap . Work stopped play.

          • Just back from the plot - my bean bed is forked over, can do the trenches tomorrow. Second potato bed half done. Lovely afternoon, but surprisingly few people at the allotment site!

              • Enlisted Pops and Mama H to play on the plot. Pops helped to create what will be bean frames. Need to anchor them still. Moved some strawberrries, planted some herbs. Mama H has sown some methi, perpetual spinach, kale, chard and turnips. I stood there, fetching water for her.

                • I planted out some stuff in the tunnel, planted 5 fruit trees and put 7 strawberries in a multiplanter. I planted cucumber, peas, garlic and corn inside to bring on and hopefully plant out soon enough.

                  • Planted out 100 onions that I grew from seed.
Harvested the last of the leeks and had them with chicken, cheese sauce and tagliatelle pasta. Yum, yum!!!

                      • Got busy with my drainage trenches on the lawn. Filled with some of the soil I dug out on top of the sand and gravel layers I had put in last weekend. Aerated the rest of the lawn area and laid some more sand on top to hel aid drainage. Given that the trenches are still a bit squishy underfoot, I have decided to "walk in" some more of the left over soil before levelling it off in around 2 weeks or so, probably with more sand.

Checked my tubs at the bottom of the garden and got all excited as some of my carrots are up! I am easily contented

Earthed up some of our spuds earlier. KCN planted another patty pan, hyssop and generally tidied up in the garden

                          • - planted out 5 trays of peas, lots of different varieties
                            - and beetroot, self-saved Cylindra ones
                            - transplanted self-sown garlic & onion seedlings that have popped up on the plot
                            - We've had only a misting of rain in 4 weeks, so I gave the new seedlings all a drink
                            - chopped 'n' dropped the old green manures, new ones are popping up already
                            - started chitting another huge batch of French beans, and sweetcorn
                            - the first pumpkins are up, and putting on a cm a day. Sowed more
                            - spent 3hrs sorting out the strawberry bed: removing runners & transplanting them. Seaweed fed
                            - dug up limnanthes that's self-seeded itself in a tight clump. Spaced them all out a bit
                            - did the old in-and-out shuffle that is hardening off. 15 trays outside 10am, back inside at 5pm

                            • Sowed carrots. Cleared a double raised bed of weeds ready for slug repellent next week, will fertilise them tomorrow. Enough for one day, hope I don't ache too much tomorrow.

                              • Found a heeeuuuge green caterpillar. Put it out of the garden for the birds.

                                I feel guilty now.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it.
If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
