  • Planted 32 french bean seeds (var allegria which I rave about - highly recomended) this morning in compost in loo rolls with help of master loudbarker.

Beetroot, lettuce germinating nicely; tomatos sporadic - celeriac non-existant.

    • Watered, a lot of things. Shuffled a lot of things too!

Sowed brussel sprouts, 2 types of cabbage, kailaan into modules outside.
Sowed some nasturtiums in modules outside.
Potted on and pricked out tomatos, cukes and chillis.
Sweetcorn have germinated well but not enough (maybe 80% - I think one batch of seeds is duff as only one germinated this year indoors and none last year outdoors! Time to chuck!) So I will sow some more when I'm back from work on Monday.

I can't wait for Monday so I can get down to the allotment and check everything over...I'm off on holiday for 10 days next week from Thursday so I hope everything will be OK!

      • Watered and shuffled in the greenhouse.

Pricked out and potted up Calabrese, Cavalo de Nero, Summer PSB and Sprouts.

Did I mention all the beans I've got chitting? Lord knows where I'm going to put them all.

          • I discovered that what I thought was bindweed is probably Horseradish. Thanks BB. My mouth isn't on fire anymore, is yours?

            • Read the weather reports of the temps dropping to 1-2.c around here at night over the weekend and promptly went to earth up my tata's.

              • Planted out parsnips, peas and onion sets, it seems to have taken me all day but most of the time went on sorting out the frame/netting for the peas.

                • Just come inside after a couple of hours of weeding and clearance. Today I targeted the Woods Avens (Herb Bennet) which drives me mad in the summer when their spiky seedheads catch in the dog's fur.
Having pulled up lots, I find that it is a useful plant - with roots that smell like cloves and edible leaves. Robin Harford on Herb Bennet (Wood Avens) - YouTube
They're not on the menu for tonight though Maybe tomorrow I'll have a nibble and a sniff

                  • Bought 6 sweet peppers and 3 chilli plants via my mum from the garden centre where she works. £5 for the lot. They will replace the ones that got fried in the greenhouse last week.

Leeks are coming up in modules.

Daughters took a dozen pea plants into school to plant in their gardening club.

                    • Built a compost bin! I admit it won't last for years but for £2 I say it's a bargain.

Found some onion/shallot sets I kinda threw in a pot and forgot about had started growing so carefully dug them out and planted them for real in the raised bed.

Sowed cut and come again lettuce and spring onions.

Started trying to cover the mound of soil at the back of the garden in newspaper to help kill off the grass and weeds so I can plant the courgette plants there in a few weeks.

                      • celeriac

today i planted my celeriac out in the garden, i have put a fleece over it as they are saying it's going to get down to 3 or 4 degree's tonight, my peas are also in, so hopefully i will have some this year, as last year i didn't get any.
i also have celeriac growing in the greenhouse, i am waiting to plant them out in May.
lets hope this year will be kinder to us gardeners.

                        • Managed to get out into the garden this evening. Started to fork over the bed for the onions (they are starting to outgrow their modules in the potting shed).

OH has salvaged some timber from work (it was going to go onto a bonfire ). He's currently pulling the nails and screws out of it, they he'll be building another raised bed for me (I do love recycling - something great for no cost other than effort )

Funny we've been identifying and talking about this on Twitter! Took Binley and G4 to ID it!

Took some wild garlic leaves to my hairdressing appt. he wanted some for his sardine dish and asked the right person if they'd got some
Watered and shuffled a lot between house, poly and greenhouse. Snipped some tiny slugs in half and left them as a warning to others MWAHAHAHAHAHA
Cut some salad, chives and parsley for dinner and daughter's recipe tomorrow. Spaghetti Carbonara with chives - hmmmm
Made parsley butter for freezer stock.
Stewed some rhubarb and had it with cream for pud.
Smelt the fresh air after the welcome drop of rain.

Last friday I lost my wedding ring somewhere on the allotment! Since then I've hunted high and low for it even going through the plants I'd potted up to see if I could find it! But no luck. I was sure that I had lost it somewhere in the polytunnel! I had weeded my strawberry beds as well but didn't find it there. I even went to the jewellers with the missus to see what fortune a new ring would cost! Boy did I cough!!! My asparagus bed needed weeding so I decided to get stuck in, there was a clump of grass that needed to go. Dug it up and shook the earth around it and hey ho the ring dropped down! I was delighted Went home and told the missus, she was pleased as well. Most expensive piece of grass growing on my allotment!
Not always where you thought you lost it (many people think I lost it a long time ago )
