  • Busy day!
Up early to pick up a new shed, take it down the allotment and put it up, dodging the showers.

Planted out my chitted dwarf french beans under cloches.

Also the previous plotholder had left a green metal obelisk thingy, so I covered it in plastic netting and planted my chitted climbing french beans at the foot of it. It's a bit risky in case we get a late frost, so I'll chit a few more this week just to be safe.

Dug the rest of Bed 5 on the lottie ready for sweetcorn and maincrop potatoes. Bed 6 tomorrow!

Potted on my free Heinz tomatoes which are doing nicely on the kitchen windowsill.

      • Had a nice day sat in the sun in the garden...filled 30 of the 30cm wilkinsons pots with MPC ready for the chillies a bit later this Month and lined them all up in the polytunnel ready...
Put 6 tomato plants into large planters for my Dad so had to fill all those pots too before adding the plants...
Checked the heated prop and my 2 Dragons egg cucumbers and black tomatoes have sprouted in under a week :-)

Potted on a few moruga scorpions as the roots were showing in their current pots...

Just waiting to clear everything out of the house now and into the tunnel..

          • Yeah the whole ridges thing was my dads idea, he kept saying if I didnt do ridges nothing would grow which i know isnt true but anyway :l I have a 1/4 acre plot which I own and i only did a few ridges, ive direct sewn others and im also using old tyres to make large planters for other plants that will be planted out later on in the year

Oh and the carrott/wildflower thing... I broadcast sowed carrotts which were blight resistant and i mixed in a wildflower mix with it, partly so they'd space out a tiny bit but also I saw this feature in a magazine where this girl sewed wildflower mix with carrotts as a fly-detterant, im only experimenting really and the flowers are pretty anyways

                • My peas are up About 4" high. They are Champion of England and last year they were impressive. I grew them at lottie and also in my garden, a real snail squat. But C of E grew faster than the snails could eat them!

Also potted on my legions of tommies, a 20 minute job that took 3 hours.

Am trying cucs for the first time, on our 3 large west facing windowsills (Cucino and Telegraph Improved). Enjoying the daily tendril action as they orientate themselves within the Heath Robinson structures I've built for them to climb, though one of them has fallen in love with the cord of the blind instead...

                    • Had a little go at building a path to run down my garden, it will by no means be completly straight and level but it will be my first path so I will love it Besides I will always be able to level it off again in future years.

Now I've decided to weed the patio, although it feels more like I am mowing the patio why did I let it get this bad?

                          • Slug hunted.

Made breakfast and sat in garden for first time this year having a cuppa and an egg sandwich whilst basking in full sunlight, feet up perched on side of raised bed. It was lovely.

Shifted soil from the pile I dug out my lawn, broke up the sods and crumbled it into fine dust. Doesn't look that much, but it took most of the middle part of the day and i am now fairly close to resowing the lawn
Quanti canicula ille in fenestra ?

                              • Loaded trailer with horse muck and dumped it at the new allotment. Stared at nettles, thistles and docks for a while before eventually starting bastard trenching. Quick pint and a butty at the pub then a sneaky kip. Back of to do more digging in the evening sunshine.
