Heavy rain this afternoon softened the ground and perked the plants up.
Planted 2 Skirrets grown last year, 9 Walking Onions and about 20 Oca in the Ridiculous Roots bed. Also all the remaining white onion sets were pushed in between those already in the ground.
Dotted 10 kales around the garden, some in deep shade, some in a cage, others in sunnier spots, to see how they cope with shade and rabbits.

Sowed further seeds tonight - cucumber Beth Alpha - my only F1 - and Boothbys Blond. Also yellow zucchini. Lancashire Lad and Robinson peas. Nellie's dwarf French bean which I think is called Hinrich's Riesen.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

Today fitted two water butts to the new plots greenhouse. I planted two rows of shallots grown from seed and two rows of onions started from seed too.Chris

Planted out my second earlies (charlotte) and some maincrop (Desiree).
Got some more of my chitted parsnips sown into toilet rolls.
Gave everything in the greenhouse a good watering and have started hardening off my onion sets, peas and sugar snap peas for planting out hopefully in a couple of weeks.
Did quite a bit of work with my flowers for my hanging baskets and tubs so finally feel like I am getting organised again.

A fleeting visit to the allotment to watch with smug pride as my runner bean X-frames and Fench bean wigwams stood imperious and unbowed in the teeth of a pretty nasty, gusty wind. How could I ever have doubted my handiwork?
Cut some purple sprouting and a few cabbage leaves for dinner tonight before running away to the warm and dry, fair-weather gardener that I am.

This morning in between the showers I stuck the last of my shallots in that I've grown from seed. I also strimmed the paths up at the overflow plot. Got finished before the rain came.
It looks like someones took the half plot I gave up this year. I wonder if I can sell them my shed before I leave at the end of the season.Chris

Popped down to the allotment (and scored Brownie points from the old boys for my commitment for being down there in this foul weather). Planted some of my parsnips in newspaper pots that have come up but couldn't really get them deep enough. If I do it this way again I will dig a trench for them. Also sowed some more peas in some big gaps between those that have already come up. Did a bit of hoeing to keep on top of the weeds.
Polytunnel still looking good but the bean arches had fallen over.Likac66

Was going to post this last night but never got chance. Last night I went up the allotment for an hour to potter about. Weeded a few of the beds, and started clearing a bed ready for my courgettes. Also picked a handful of lettuce and radish.

Popped a few PFA potatoes into the new raised beds. Pulled a carrot from the polytunnel soil and it's perfect, just embryo sized. At last my onions in the poly are fattening at the base.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein
