  • Fleeced the tato shoots. As well as the pear and apple tree, just in case. Have no idea what it means when the weatherman says "Spot of frost in places." Define places?

Wheelbarrowed mulch and spread it around. Got to a point where my brain switched off; eyes glazed over, and there was a domestic going on on the next plot but one. Meant I didn't get as far as planting more summer flowering bulbs.

Now hurt, and having a cuppa.

    • Another load of manure today. Filled two of the 2m bins (along with pine chippings and neighbours' weeds and orange tree cuttings), and reserved 1/3 of the manure for when the 3rd bin becomes free. Total's going to be 7m3 of compost, for about £8!

      Someone be impressed!

Also yanked one bed of spinach as, despite the planting instructions, almost all of it all bolted. Managed to get about 50 plants in the end. Have a very bad feeling about the other bed of spinach seedlings :|

Also noticed one of the cauliflowers is growing a head (yay!), but that the plants leaves are looking very dodgy (boo!). Blackening, and seem to have gotten white powdery mildew... Will monitor...

      So yeah.

      • Weeded the two raised beds at home - minimal. Planted lettuce plugs of Moroccan, asparagus and black seeded Simpson. Earthed up the tatties. Planted Longor shallots.

        • My Weed of the Day" was Creeping Buttercup. There are a lot less of them creeping around tonight
Moved the rest of my Pots in Pots out of the GH, probably a mistake as you're all talking about freezing temperatures tonight. By morning they may have had their Chips

            • Had a bonus morning off as the kids are both poorly. Used a bit of the time to do the following:

              pull out the PSB
              sow peas for pea shoots
              sow baby carrots in tubs
              sow 12 asparagus pea
sow 24 violet podded climbing beans

              • sowed lots of herbs, radish and lettuce.Potted on all my dhalias that i sowed a few weeks ago. Staked up the peas some more, they are flying along in spite of the cold weather. Netted all my strawberries which are full of blossom. They have come on so much better since i planted them out.

No carrots as yet Broad beans are flowering hoed off beds again. Neat and tidy picked PSB and rhubarb, enough for four, for dinner

                            • Strung my new pea frame (Thank you Mr Teez!) with twine and hung up old CD's and tin can lids as bird deterrent. Mulched the Strawbs, garlic and shallots with the contents of a Darlek. Earthed up spuds. Hoe,hoe, hoed all 14 beds! Planted out PSB. Took delivery of several tons of wood chip (Thank you Step-son#2!). Will be renewing all my paths with it this weekend.

                              • Cleared some ground under an apple tree and planted Charlotte potatoes there. They have two chances....... With a bit of luck they'll grow enough to keep the weeds down, or maybe the weeds will grow enough that I won't need to earth up the potatoes. Whatever happens, I've got rid of the little chitters from the kitchen table
