  • So... busy day today.

Firstly we dismantled the trampoline at the bottom of the garden and took it to the tip. This is now the area that the chicken coop is going in later this week.

Took the remains of the trampoline, an old washing line and patio table to the tip. Then popped to allotment to remove fleece off courgettes. Went to post office to collect a tool set I bought - shears, loppers and secateurs.

Came home and tidied up the greenhouse and gave everything a good watering. Made cane wig-wams for the mangetout.

Went back to the allotment. Planted out broccoli and cauliflower and covered with netting in a very haphazard way. Also spent a long time weeding the brassica bed that serious grass, docks and dandelion problems.

Lots more to do over the next week while I'm off work

    • Watered everything in the polytunnel and put all the sweetcorn in a sheltered place to be fully hardened off as i won't be putting them back inside anymore!

      • Planted on a few things- tomatoes and courgettes. Decided to brave the cold weather and move the peas to their final place with some half bottles over them for the nights.

Also sort out the potatoes and tried to tidy up the mess left on my balcony from the decorators, they've also squashed one of my Clematis who is looking rather poorly now :-(

Indoors I'm hoping it's going to heat up a bit as the baby plants are all looking a bit pathetic for nearly June!

Did you hear me scream? I could have made so many useful things out of those

I've made another nail - free raised bed from a single pallet and some old T&G. Held in place by more bits of broken metalwork from a cheapo blowaway thingy. Lined the base with cardboard and emptied 3 bags of my very best homemade compost into it.
Planted out some Mountaineer half-tall pole beans against the rotary line bean frame.
Just come indoors now and I'm starving

          • Well, when I say tip, I mean the recycling centre. Don't worry - it won't go in a landfill.

              • The weather spurned me on today. Got some more pototoes planted, put some cucumbers in a grow bag. Spent a couple of hours of hand to hand combat with what I think is ground elder. Cut the grass and then when the sun had gone away a bit watered all the pots/tubs.

                • Potted on practically everything in the greenhouse - tomatoes, chillis, aubergines, basil, courgettes, globe artichokes.

                  • Watered the poly, lotty and greenhouse plants. Potted on beans. Chopped comfrey and added it to water butt. Weeded and fed the raised beds at home with seaweed feed.

Me too. They are coming up better than the intentionally planted ones, too. Also a lot of rogue onions.

                        • Down at lottie, the swedes I direct sowed are coming up! Haven't grown swedes before so quite excited.

Planted out some Brussell Sprouts. The Evesham Special (cheapo) germinated and grew much better than the Nelson or Green Marble. Must say I'm relieved as 16 Brussell Sprout plants is probably enough, given the effect on Mr Noosner's digestive system...

My peas are doing brilliantly, about 10" tall now. Have sown some more (Champion of England). The Senator and Telephone didn't come up.

Earthed up some of the spuds.

Even after all these years I am still ridiculously delighted when things come up! I guess you guys are the same or we wouldn't all be here

I'm impressed Don. I was meaning to make one of those myself, then I managed to pick up a plastic one or 3 for free. So I've not got around to it. I do prefer the wooden ones though. Post a picture if you get a chance.
