  • Planted up my greenhouse pots (3 roma,2 gardeners delight, 2 mini cucumbers, 1 normal, 1 california pepper and 1 melon). Planted some runner beans, hung the wall baskets up which contain moneymaker toms and nasturtiums. Earthed up my potato bags and tried to work out where the heck Im going to put all the baby plants I have in the coldframe!

    • Started digging over the plot from which the Purple Sprouting has just been removed ready for planting out of winter leeks. The PSB was grown through plastic mulch into virgin meadow last season and there is still a fine old tangle of weed and grass roots to remove.

I had hoped to finish it today but it's proving a bigger job than I first thought. Hostilities will resume tomorrow.

      • Turned one of my compost heaps which had heated up somewhat and sunk in the last few days.
Went to the allotment, got the hose out, and gave everything a good squirt. Worried about my toms: they look healthy enough, but, though I sowed them in February, they are still only about six inches high, and nowhere near flowering. The onions have come on apace in the last week or two, though, and the french beans and climbing peas are also ramping away. The kale and cabbages, and courgettes and pumpkins, are still small, but they were all started late.
Tour of my back garden mini-orchard.

          • Moved my overwintered Chill and sweet peppers into the GH and planted out lettuce grown in paper pots. Plus cleared a gravel and stone slab area that had got over grown.

                • Marked the rows in my small pantile bed which was going to be for carrots but I was too idle to drag the sand to the allotment to enrich the soil. Planted the Invitation swedes I had grown instead and made up the bed with a direct sowing of Marian and Bora swedes seed I had left over from last year.
Covered bed with mesh to keep pigeons off and gave the bed a good watering.

My project for tomorrow evening after work is to clear the back bed of my large greenhouse of weeds and possibly stick the dozen or so sweetcorn plants that survived the predation of my resident mouse, in the border.
Plans change by the minute so we'll just have to see though.

On the home front, I've just made a batch of rhubarb & rosemary jelly to try. (Hence the reason the keyboard is all sticky!)

Does this mean that if you snap off a plant it will automatically regrow..........

                      • Planted some Bronze Arrowhead lettuce in Pallet Bed no. 2.
Planted out some kale - for a change
Bought 6 strips of spring onions, leeks and white onions for 20p a strip from H@me base - were £2 a strip (no wonder they didn't sell!).
                        Did some peripatetic weeding
                        Scrounged a pallet!

                        • Up and out by 8.30 this morning. Strimmed the next door neighbours grass that was over 4ft high. (Was like a bloody jungle).then cut his hedges and finally mowed the grass.came home and mowed my grass. Went to allotment at 7pm. Watered everything in the polytunnel. Gave the apple tree a good trim because it was hanging right down and casting a shadow on most the plot. Finally planted out me caugettes, sweetcorn, french beans and gave them all a good watering. I have just got back home. Drinking a nice cold cider while waiting for the bath to run. Im going to ache 2moro

                          • Quick bit of weeding at the allotment - I feel like I'm losing the battle with the weeds to be honest. Hoping to spend Sunday at the plot to get caught up with all the jobs which need doing.

                              • Yesterday mulched up most of the fruit and nut forest. Watered half of it. Planted broad beans, broad beans , 3 other sorts of beans. Weeded around the surviving Tagasaste seedlings. Bamboo has bit the dust, but I shall try again later. Maybe put in spring it might survive next summer and next winter.
