Likac66 where did you get your justaberry plant? We picked some at a PYO a few years ago and loved them. I think we even made a cordial from them.

I haven't had much time today, but I've just been out to water the seedlings and put wet newspaper mulch round the marrows and one tomato plant. Also put wet newspaper down around the beetroot, leaving just the leaves poking through.
I pulled up a weed by the aubergine plant and it brought up a huge clod of rock solid earth - the ground is *so* dry.Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

Cleared the first lot of peas, added compost and planted out kale and psb. Cleared last of the broadies (spring sown - rubbish, autumn sown - superb) and planted swede.
Cut edges of all the grass paths.
Sprayed Bordeaux mix on tomatoes and potatoes.
Potted up some basil.Le Sarramea https://jgsgardening.blogspot.com/

Made a start at clearing some of the grass at the new plot/jungle- it needs it:
Can anyone lend me a machete?
Not found any elephants in there yet, just a very startled vole and a slowworm.
Also dug up the last of the garlic and the shallots from the less chaotic plot, and watered... again...Attached Files

Picked first strawberry yesterday- how late!!
Just trying to keep everything watered, happy and healthy. Noticed first courgettes are getting started and all Cherry/pot tomatoes are well on their way. No Roma set yet though :-(
Peas and mangetout in full swing.
Cut masses of basil as it's taking over the place and stored it for later use.
Oh how I love when it turns to harvesting instead of moaning about the weather!Feels very strange to be just starting to pick such things so late in the year though!

Cleared the flowerbed of weeds and cut back the finished perennials. Cut back the strawberry bed. Pulled up the gone to seed lettuce and composted. Weeded round the Long Red Florence. Put some cardboard inbetween two raised beds. Stringed half the onions (waiting for the rest to dry) and the garlic. Pulled up nasturtium plants that looked bedraggled from various containers. Hard afternoon all in all. Done in now.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Got the shears on the uncultivated bits then watered and picked stuff. Lifted the netting off a brassica bed to pull out bindweed and discovered I have whitefly on the brussels sprouts. Might have to get the spray out

Weeded, watered and harvested at the lottie with son for 2 hours. Home for lunch then cut back bedraggled geraniums, sage, chives and oriental poppies, and harvested some red currants, strawbs and our first ever cherries (just five, one each, to taste), which son made into a little fruit salad with gooseberries and white currants from lottie. Yum.

Cut down some of the broad bean plants. Left the roots in for now to feed nitrogen back in to the ground (or whatever it is beans put back in!)
Finished weeding the final path area between veg beds at last! Some blinkin' horrible weeds on that one.
Harvested produce - will post that on harvest thread.
Picked up the onions that were nicely drying but are now damp again and brought them home to go in the greenhouse instead.Likac66
