  • Spent the afternoon at the allotment with no little helpers. Weeded the strawberry bed and cut off unwanted runners.

Rolled up the netting and stacked neatly in the shed

Picked some blackberries on the way home.

      • Made some blackberry jam. Badly.

More chilli jam, which was slightly better

        • Yesterday I lifted my garlic & set it on racks in the shed to dry, emptied the compost bin into the larger empty bin, picked French beans, pruned & dead headed.

I don't let mine get too big because it stops the plant from producing any more courgettes so I harvest them between 4 to 6 inch long.

Just noticed its your first post so hello and welcome to the vine Foxrock

                  • Cleaned out and rearranged my garage ready for delivery of new freezer tomorrow. Put away all those bits of stuff that accumulate from gardening.

Identified the moths that are swarming round my buddleia as Silver Y moth - they eat carrot foliage amongst about 200 other plants apparently

Removed a large brown caterpillar from my winter carrots (under fleece) and a cabbage white caterpillar and a green moth caterpillar from my broccoli (under fleece) and a wasp from inside the enviromesh netting over my cabbages. How do these damn things get in there?

Baled out the water from drip trays under my pots after about an inch of rain over night.

Harvested a large bowlful of carrots and made some soup.

Nipped out the tops of the tomato plants and removed some lower leaves. We have a blight alert here today (Full Smith Period) so I'm keeping my eyes open for signs of blight.

Harvested another punnet full of tomatoes and a courgette.

                    • Made 4 new lower raised beds for my 5% of garden which isn't concrete.

Dug up the few shrubs I had along the fence and replaced with a cherry tree, gooseberry bush and 2 blackberry bushes.

                      Checked runners on strawberries

Trimmed and tied in tomatoe plants one of which is FINALLY starting to change colour

Brought heated propagater and some half price seeds ready for next year.

Spent the rest of the weekend pondering on whether or not to get an allotment.

                        • Loads of weeding, hoed all round raised beds, pulled up bindweed, pruned straggly branches of apple tree. Disturbed a frog's home whilst weeding, so rebuilt the 'wild' area. Mr H removed the old washing line posts. Removed about a million snails from hanging baskets and pots.

A good day's work in all
