  • Removed the two cucs that have gone floppy in the GH then planted 'All year round' and Arctic lettuce in their place.
Put fleece and cloches over the remaining courgettes to give them a bit of a chance.
    Location....East Midlands.

    • Pulled up the last few sweetcorn and rescued three cobs. Another hlaf dozen or so have been stripped by squirrels or mice or something... pesky critters but it's my fault for leaving them on the plant.

Picked another spaghetti squash and three more patty pan squashes.

Picked last of the french beans and a few of the runners.

Turned my pumpkins to keep them ripening evenly.

Noticed it was actually too dark to see what i was doing so came in for tea!

      • @Stan79 I was shocked to notice how dark it was by 6.30 last night - you get these sudden leaps with it getting dark earlier. Beautiful moon to make up for it.

I've just been out in the veg patch for the first bit of serious work in a while. I pulled up the courgette plants and runner beans that were over, but left a few in that have some life left in them. Picked the last handful of runners. Created a sun roof over some lovely frilly little lettuces and added sides to the carport I'd made for the basil and purslane. Lay down more cardboard over areas I'd just denuded.
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

        • Raked up 2 bin bags of leaves off my Mum's drive, and brought them home to make leaf mould. Harvested some lovely big Desiree potatoes from one of the bags I brought into the garage a month ago.

          • Fri 18th Oct-Harvested Squashes, Pumpkins and put them in polytunnel to dry and ripen off. Then cleared the beds they was in and cut and composted all the plants. Weeded area, ready for compost /manure to be spread and then left to overwinter.

              • Not enough!
                Planted some EPW garlic
Cleaned out some finished tomato plants...

                    • Popped down the allotment during a short break in the rain. Snipped some mint for mint tea, then the lifeboat station let off an almighty bang which freaked the little dog out, so legged it back home.

                          • Filled in two of the massivest wombat holes this morning. The ones around the house stumps are a bit worrying. Cast a lot of aspertions on a native marsupial and his/her forebears. Enough already!

No gardening done yet. Will need to get the silverbeet today as it's trying to go to seed.

                            • - transplanted 100s of self-sown flowers into more suitable places. In the lashing rain
                              - held first garden club at my new school: we planted garlic, onions & potatoes (for the heck of it)
                              - continued collecting autumn leaves, one black sack a day
                              - gave away strawberry, black- and red-currant plants
