      • Planted out another purchased tomato seedling - I don't even want tomatoes anymore, I just want one to grow. 4 cucumbers, and a rockmelon, just because it was half price.

Watered the new plants in and the First garden bed.

Shocking year for growing here. Dry as a bone. Pulled all the broad bean plants out yesterday but haven't got the beans off them yet. Best do that soon and cook them to freeze as they don't seem to dry well for me.

        • Lifted the lid of the propagator, looked inside, put the lid back! (One of THOSE days!)

          • Dug a 15' bean trench, filled with rotted material & topped up with soil. Cut more tree branches down. Fitted a PIR light. Re-Positioned a Whirligig...........One of those days.......

Oh nice eh. My potatoes will be ready for collection next week, and I haven't had to buy any seeds for next year, had so many left from last year or ones given in the Mag.

Pity we still have some winter months to go!

When I've finished, these beds won't be in yorkshire any more, but Leicestershire. I don't know if this is a crazy plan or a genius one - it is certainly drawing some looks of incomprehension down at lottie and people saying 'I wouldn't do it that way'... Anyway 2 beds are done now with another two part done. Planning 5 altogether. All I can say is WE WILL SEE!

                    • Battled down to the lottie in nasty wind, dropped off kitchen scraps onto compost heap, had a quick poke about, hurried home to the wam. Ordered lots more seeds, as if I need any more - at this rate I will have enough to plant up the whole of Sussex!

                      • Had a peep in the propagator and discovered the lettuce, pak choi, peas and spinach I sowed on 28 December have germinated. Moved them to the grow light garden.

Dug out the bottom layer of the hotbin and spread the compost on the garden for the worms to play with.

Ordered some tower pots for next year's strawberries and herbs.

All in all a good day

                        • - repaired some of the storm damage: put canes upright again, and moved all the cans from the beds onto the canes
                          - laid down more newspaper mulch, because the mild winter has given the weeds a boost. The mulch is so good that it's stayed in place even while everything else is blowing around.
