Took household composting material to lottie and put on compost bin. While there, I pruned the raspberries down. Let out about 100ltrs of water from the lbc tank onto the polytunnel soil. Dug some carrots and parsnips out and was quite happy with some mooli I grew. Then off home for a cuppa!!!!

I popped down to allotment turned over a bed and removed three buckets of bind weed and grass. But noticed the off patch of white mould I guess you'd call it, see pic. Anyone any ideas
Also I noticed a new fruit tree nit sure apple or pear but new leaves are brown and I noticed a white flower already. Sorry for not taking a pic just wondered if there's an issue with the tree.
Thanks
Mark

Mansfield's not far from us. I've seen some plots on the way to Forest Town that look a lillte run down...

Grabbed half an hour at lunchtime to begin clearing phase 2 of my growing space. Laid a large area of cardboard and weighed it down with spent compost (from last year's pepper, chilli plants, growbags). Also cut a bit of the tree down (it's in the way, it's blocking light, it's got to go). While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

Finished 'repairing' my ancient High Top propagator. Built new wooden base, replaced inadequate heating element with soil warming cable sandwiched between old floor tiles, built new glass top. In fact, the only old bits I used were the thermostat and neon bulbs! Never mind. It had lasted twenty years or so and now I have a nice sold replacement.

I found this on another forum . . .
Most likely the white moldy looking stuff is either actinobacteria (aka actinomycetes) or one of the common wood rot fungi (probably white rot fungus). Neither is harmful to plants, and both are part of the microbial community in healthy soils. It's a good thing.

. . . dug 3 of the 4 post holes and fitted the posts, no concrete just packed stones collected from the allotment.
Will need to dismantle the existing compost heap tomorrow to install the 4th post and hopefully get the frame for the roof on.

Made the first raised bed, put it in place then went for a meander to the stable wheelbarrow in hand. Gees, what a hike bringing it back full.............Anyhoos, dug the manure in, planted 3 rows of Shallots. Made an arch out of a couple of saplings at the north end of the bed, run some vertical string from the bed to the arch & sowed some Mangetout Bijou. A good days work all in all.sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”
