Planted 15 Apache potatoes (ex-supermarket) in a mini-polytunnel. Sometimes you just have to take a gamble..............

Stripped the wheel bearings on the trailer. Now I know why it went sideways! Managed to pull the old rusty bearings off and found replacements at our local mega industrial suppliers. Decided to give the axle a wire brush and got everything ready to repaint and put back together but that can wait because tomorrow the sun will be shining and I will be outdoors all dayDavid

I drove from Boyle, Co Roscommon to Ballingeary, Co Cork and have never been so envious in all my life. All these country houses with land and polly tunnels, my wee gardenless flat in Glasgow is not missed at all.

Worked a 12 hour shift last night, then went to the fruit and veg markets on the way home. Drove home. That was enough for me - 3 hours in bed.Ali

Have been thinking about some guerilla gardening. The plot next to mine at the allotments has stood empty for 3 years now. I know the story - the owner's Mum died and she moved away to look after her Dad but didn't want to get shot of the plot as the waiting list is so long. She has tried to sublet and four different lots of people have turned up over the years, dug it over once or twice, then vanished. Would it be unethical to clear an area and plant some fruit bushes from Lidl or Aldi or summat (ie cheap) do you think, Grapes? Also to clear an area for spuds? I'd also love to put a Bramley apple tree in there (no room now on my plot). It's a corner plot and I'm the only neighbour. If new folks came, they would just inherit it all (though I thought I'd do some first early spuds then there's more chance of harvesting them before anyone comes!) I feel sympathy with the neighbour but on the other hand I get a lot of earache from folks coming down the river path who hate to see a plot gong to waste. Would love to know what you guys think and what you would do.

Yes its unethical. The ethical thing to do is to approach her and offer to sublet it maybe for a share of the produce (providing the site rules allow sub letting which I doubt) Is there a committe? maybe you could take it over legitimately.
If you do decided to go "guerilla" you coulld always blame it on the scarecrows.photo album of my garden in my profile http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...my+garden.html

Had a tidy up this afternoon, of all the seedlings scattered around the house.
Kelsaes are all now on windowsills inside house (I managed to find room, so hopefully they will continue growing nicely).
Leek and red baron onion seedlings are now all in cool conservatory on window sill. Along with chitting King Edward potatoes.
Also sowed spring onions and red florence onions today, they are currently on the hallway floor, and will also be placed into conservatory after most of them have germinated.
Also checked on garlic today, it is looking pretty good I think. But a few leaves are going a bit yellow on the tips. Probably caused by all the rain?????!!!!!!

Spent the day bracing the Brassica Kite due to the pummelling it took in last nights wind..............sigpic“Gorillas are very intelligent, but they don't have to be as delicate as chimps -- they can just smash open the termite nest,”

Spent the morning shuffling the chitting potatoes from the kitchen into the living room and moving the propagators from the living room into the kitchen.
Germinated seedlings are moved from the prop into the utility room under the growlights and when large enough move into the Blowaway inside GH No1. For potting on they move to GH No 2 where the pots and compost are stored and then into GH No 3 to grow on until large enough to plant out.................
Hope you're keeping up with this 'cos I'm totally confused

Finally managed to riddle the last of the compost from the old compost heap . . . my back is glad it's over.
I used most of it in 2 trenches where I'll be planting 2 rows of potatoes so they should enjoy it.
Tomorrow should be a last dig of my final bed and laying my last two gravel boards . . .

A day of trivial tediousness.
Removed the Kiwi Jenny from the trellis arch ... eventually. One of those jobs where you needed about 5 hands to keep control of the various vines while manipulating the pot. Managed to avoid damaging it though
Put my rotary airer up to see where the arms spread to, in order to see how much the arms need shortening by ... and when I lifted it back out, the ground socket came with it. I'll worry about that later, it's not like I'll be putting laundry out anytime soon
Lifted my arch, turned it round and sank it back in the floor. Went to remove the trellising I had fitted on the back .... only to find all the 4 strings of solar lights were wrapped through it and all kind of knitted together. Took me well over an hour just to track each string through and remove them carefully in the right order without damaging them so I could remove the trellis.
Moved my garden furniture into the middle to see how much space I'd got, and one of the tables broke as I was putting it up - all the screws pulled out of the rail underneath and came away. Fixable, but extremely frustrating
Still chaos, but it is moving in the right direction ...
