Felt sorry for her and disappointed as I'd got excited at the thought of babysitting a second allotment. But never mind - I guess I can look forward to some new neighbours this Spring.
Good job you didnt plant fruit trees etc eh.

Today A friend and I lifted our six burner commercial cooker out of the kitchen into our back yard, to say it was heavy is an understatement, I have actualy got bruises in my arms. My dad used to say "Carefull lifting that or you'll put your bloody Wazzer out " Never quite sure what a Wazzer was or where it might pop out from. We have bought a second hand (nearly new) rangemaster, damn thing is too long though so I have to chop my stainless steel counters down

Managed my beer last night and my final 6 barrow loads of soil this morning. Amazing how it sinks innit . (The soil and the beer ).

Gave my "new" 50+ year old Howard rotavator a treat and used it to give one side of my plot a good tear up. Hoping that will help the soil dry out a bit. Really pleased with the rotavator. Started third pull and with its swivel handle managed to leavea great finish without foot prints.

Moved some surplus decking boards to the foot of my plot, managed to trip over a flat hose which had been rolled up but had unraveled. Went all my length and skinned my shin. Sore one .

Finished the day by clearing the bit of the plot her ladyship will be growing on this season. Will I rotavate that bit for her? Now that depends

          • Planning to make some lip salve out of dried lemon balm today... I love the curative properties of plants... would certainly have been considered a witch in ye olde days.

            • Drilled holes in ten buckets for potatoes later on in the year. Washed the patio, chopped up sticks and stuck them in the compost bin. Put some Biztro shallots in modules.

This morning, topped up the parsnip & carrot bed with 50/50 compost & sand whilst topping up the tan........
This afternoon, did a bit more bracing in the Brassica Kite in the bracing wind & sleet.........

                • Frost forecast for tonight so took advantage of a break in the weather this afternoon and roughly forked over what used to be a path at the side of the plot. Guy who had the plot before me, didn't dig, he ploughed it with a Massey Ferguson 135 and left 4 ft borders at either side which he used as paths. Dug one over last year and that's that un done as well now. If we do get frost, it will make light work of breaking up the clods.

I laid 2ft wide slabs down the middle of the plot which makes more sense to me and frees up around 80 sq yards for cultivation.

Now, a nice pot of broth simmering on the cooker so I will enjoy that later.

                  • Moved toms and dahlias from heated propagator to light box sow will be good to see if this works will compare to some I have left on a west facing window sill.
Sowed some more dahlias , marigolds , broad beans , peas , leeks and thought I would put some carrot seed into a trough inside my cold greenhouse .
Will be praying to the sun god this evening as the ground is like a quagmire, maybe I should just turn the garden into a bog garden ideas for bog plants anyone ?

                    • Nothing today! Waiting for A) more plants, B) more pots, and C) and the courage to place a large compost/soil/mulch order which will hurt the wallet but is necessary to put the new plants in the new pots

Blasted weather and weather forecast . . . was meant to be a nice day today . . .

Tomorrow was also forecast to be good, and now the forecasters have changed their minds. So tomorrow I'm going to my plot regardless . . . if I get wet I get wet, I'm so close to finishing my last bed.
OK, I didn't get wet, I watched the local rain radar and when when the rain/snow was due to stop I went to the allotment

So I have prepared my last bed, just need a hand to help me place the last 2 gravel boards and that the beds done.

Well the soup was fine yesterday and could have done with some of it this aft at the plot. Sheesh it was really really cold.

Anyway, today lifted some small slabs I had laid down at the bottom of my path down the middle of my plot when I ran out of big slabs last year. Relaid with 2 x 2 and 3 x 2's and used the small ones along the raised beds I made earlier for her ladyship. Unfortunately bad weather stopped play again

                            • Spent some of the afternoon making mud pies in one of the raised beds (aka 'planting out the garlic').

Sowed the rest of the aubergine seed (Black Enorma) as first few germinated poorly.

Planted out some Chinese mustard seedlings in the polytunnel bed and a few spring onion seedlings.

Noticed that some apricot stones I sowed during the summer have already germinated in their pot in the polytunnel.

More rain overnight and the river is already full, with the sluices at the dam fully open and water flowing across the overflow at the top as well. Never seen it like this before in ten years of being here! Around 12 inches from bursting its banks by our pond.

                              • The storm really hit Yorkshire last night. Big trees are down all over t' shop and trains last night were cancelled. It's calmer today. Lottie will be a mud bath, so I'll leave it a few days before taking a look.
