Finally managed to sneak a couple of hours at the allotment. Because i was going to be there a while I decided to let the chooks have a roam around. The came out the run but quickly went back in when they were battered with the wind
Last year I trained my grapevine in two leaders right along the highest ridge of my home made greenhouse (Think, large lean to, 10'0" high with back wall of glass)
If the grapes or leaves are too close to the glass they get scorched. To combat this I've put a nail in each crossmember 8" from peak. I've then dropped support ties from these nails and fastened two long canes end to end along length of greenhouse hanging 8" down.It was then a simple matter of loosening leader from temporary ties and fastening it to the canes.
Hopefully this should treble last years harvest of 12 large bunches.
After filling a large tray of modules roughly 18" X 2'0" with compost I set 40 Centurian onion sets in it.
I also filled a normal seed tray size of modules with the remains of my Shallots I have kept over from last year. (about 24)
