  • I had a bit of time out in the garage this afternoon and made up a raised bed for the garden. Got it stained, assembled and installed ready for planting some courgette and squash when the time comes !!!

    • Manured my beds and cut back my raspberry canes

      • Planted 40 Kelsae onion seedlings up into a large tray of Poundland compost.

In another greenhouse, loosened all the makeshift grape vine ties and tied up last years leaders to new support wires (clothes line)!

          • Tidied up all the broken things, spare pots, china, general rubbish which has ended up and been blown around the garden. Took the lid off my greenhouse and glued the new plastic sheet to the top, it's outside now with about 50 clamps holding it down!

Laid some extra cardboard, which had ended up in my garden, on the raised beds, tipped out some extra woody MPC I got from H*mebase on top of that and then covered it with the MPC bags turned inside out to help warm the soil for planting when everything dries out.

Checked one of my raised strawberry beds and found some cats had been using it as a bathroom throughout the winter, most of the strawberry plants had been dug up. Will need to hurry up and build the new strawberry holder which the cats won't be able to do their business in!

And mostly enjoyed being out in the sunshine

            • 26 degrees in gh today! So the overwintered chillies went in there at 11am this morning.

Then we completely finished all the wood chip paths at allotment.

Then went to pub for quick lunch, and then back to allotment.

I then completely dug it over for the 2nd time, and we filled a MASSIVE bag full of bindweed. This has been the 2nd huge bag. Hopefully this should almost be it!

              Bath time now!

                • The enormous laurel bush next door is a gonner!

Bahco Laplander (best folding saw I've ever used - beats a bow saw) to drop the main branches, Chris Caine Survival Tool (fluorolon coated heavy duty parang, hand made in Sheffield - majorly expensive, but what a tool!) to trim the foliage off the branches, and chainsaw for logging up and getting through the thicker stuff (trunk was over a foot thick).

We've filled 4 garden waste bins with the foliage and so far have 6 large sacks of logs bagged up. We've still got half the tree laid on the floor as the bins need emptying before we can do any more. I reckon there'll be enough foliage and thin stuff to fill all four bins again, and there'll probably be another dozen bags of logs by the time we've done.

It's totally transformed the view of the garden, and now me and a mate are toying with the idea of thinking about knocking up a perspective illusion mirror on the back wall ...

                  • Spent all day topping up the tan while playing with one of my retirement toys....................ended up with 8 wheelbarrow loads of lubly chippings.

                    • Filled the water butt in the greenhouse to help keep any overnight frosts off. Sowed more broad beans in pots, the first batch are nearly all showing now. Did a bit more digging, now not much left to finish. Cut up some logs, then took the dogs for a walk without getting them wet through for the first time in months.

                      • Planted out some of my "perennial" cabbages, grown from cuttings from the 3 year-old "Mother Cabbage" that I have in the greenhouse - Yes - another of my experiments
Also some Winter Gem lettuce plants - all under polythene in a brassica cage.
I know we had a heavy frost this morning and its not the most sensible thing to do............but, would you expect me to be sensible?
Its been a Super Sunny Sunday - maybe its affected my brain

                        • Moved my garlic out of their starter pots and in to the ground and covered my sweet peas that hadn't been completely battered by the wind. Also while digging found a drain that is completely full of mud that we had no idea was there so will be on to council tomorrow to get that cleared!

                          • Tidied around the allotment and built this sweetpea trellis, took my son (2) with me and still can't believe I actually managed to get it done with him in tow - he's very mischievous

                            • Planted my grape in the polytunnel & two gooseberry bushes out on the fruit forest patch (& wood chipped around these and the fruit trees).

Fixed up my pallet compost area, bagged up some nice compost for my potatoes.

Cardboard over some raised beds, my aunty planted some flower bulbs & we sowed some cauliflowers, marigolds, tomatoes & nasturtiums in a propagator in the polytunnel.

                              • I love days like this. Been quite busy (other halfs birthday) but when we got back from mother in laws about 4 it was still sunny and warm enough to get out in the garden for an hour. Only thing is I know it's only teasing me and tomorrow will be back to chucking it down
