Today I planted the first things on my allotment which I have been clearing, digging and manuring since mid October😄 . 16 raspberry canes, 6 Glen Ample, 4 Glen Moy and 6 Joan J. The remaining 2 Glen Moy went in the garden.

Busy day transplanted marigolds , did not realise how money there were ended up with just over 120 put them into little 2.5 inch pots then moved onto to the Dahlias' again put these into the same size pots . Transplanted the toms and chillies into 9cm pots. Marigolds and Dahlias along with the cabbage seedlings have now been put into cold greenhouse toms and chillies back under lights . Have been astounded with the results of the light box the marigolds and dahlias are nice sturdy plants about 2" tall chillies and toms are about 4" tall and looking strong and healthy

Cleared out the stayput (that's a lean to greenhouse for the uninitiated ). It's in a very poor state of repair I'm afraid and I'm not sure how to remedy it. Most of the perspex panels have been displaced. It'll still provide some shelter for the many seeds I've sown today and in any case the toms and flower seeds are indoors on the windowsills. Weeded the strawberry bed and tidied up a few of the pots. Rejuvinated the mint pots.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

Pricked out some romanesco cauliflower seedlings and put them into 3" pots. Realised I have run out of 3" pots and compost so can't prick out the sweetheart cabbage or cucumber seedlings. Also noticed that the iceberg lettuces that I overwintered (because, well, why not?) are outgrowing their pots. So now I need to get myself to the garden centre on Wednesday to buy more pots and compost!

Took kitchen waste to plot, whilst it was dry. Blocked up hole at back of compost bin,no sign of anything getting in, or jumping out at me, I always give bin a kick before opening it, just in case. Had packets of salady type seeds in pocket, then it rained, sheltered for a bit, pulled up remaining cabbages, and shredded, removed black fabric on area where pots are going to go, then the rain continued, had to come home. So not much achieved.DottyR

While out with the dog, found two eight foot fallen branches in the woods to use in the massive pea and bean wigwam I am planning. They are now stashed nearish the road so I can buzz by in my camper van and collect them. It's hard to stop thinking about gardening even when I'm meant to be doing something different...

This weekend I stared my first hugelkultur bed. Its just a small option at this stage. I have a small well shaper formation in my garden at the end of a low wall we use to sit out during the Summer here in Scotland. - that can be limited as I live in a valley - as it can be cold in the evenings due to the wind.
It's just 3f x 2f but I have filled that with some logs, twigs, compost, leaf litter and topped it off with some nice soil. Like myself, small but well rounded.
The bed will, I hope, be used to grow some courgettes in the middle and maybe some strawberries on the outer edge to hang over. And maybe a lettuce two just for fun. I don't intend to plant anything until April or May as we can still get some late frost.
Let's wait and see.

Had a nice tidy up of the numerous strawberry plant pots today, all ship shape, fertilised and a very small scattering of slug pellets. Supervised planting of Blackcurrant bush, have taken photo but ipad app does not let me upload photos. Husband is still clearing the raised bed known as the rockery years ago. Battled well established bushes and trees, not quite finished, but we will end up with a nice size veg plot, albeit only in partial sun. Sorted out the box room aka office, now to be known as indoor potting shed/greenhouse.
