Sat reading the forums here and twiddling my thumbs. I'm every so jealous of everyone making great progress. Warnings for Gales and cold up here, glad I've done nothing.. frustrated that I've done nothing.. I want to be doing something

Agreed. I achieved quite a lot over the last couple of months putting in trees and bushes, and establishing the new layout. Now I'm nursing along some seedlings and small plants indoors, but am in a kind of limbo waiting for the time when I can properly get stuck in again
I got a "come and get it" card from the PO through the door yesterday, which I think is my strawberries - but I'll only be able to put those in little pots until the alpine seedlings are ready to go out too

managed to get loads of sacks of leafmould up the plot:
- planted out 6 trays of Hurst Greenshaft peas (under net)
- 1 tray of spring onion
- 1 tray of wallflowers
- continued weeding, & removing the cardboard mulch that's done an excellent job of keeping the weeds down
- planted even more self-sown flowers along the perimeter fence, with the blessing of the Site Sec and the Chairman, who say it looks nice. More importantly, the flowers keep the weeds downAttached FilesAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Started re-doing the foundation tubes/foundation plates (I hadn't taken into account the rather surprising amount of slope when i started) for the new 42x16ft polytunnel. 6 done, 10 to go. Currently sat waiting for some more of the polytunnel part to be delivered. At least it is a 1 hour delivery slot so I can get some more done this afternoon.

Question, I have 2 bags with spuds outside. Their shoots are not pushing through yet. Do I still need to protect them from frost. I have newspapers or bubble wrap. What do you guys think?"Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put it in a fruit salad"

I'm pleased to say I made the right choice yesterday when I abandoned the planned painting job in the conservatory. Woke up this morning to lashing rain which continued through the whole day so painted the conservatory and the porch. A totally miserable day weatherwise but a very productive day workwise.

And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

A friend died last weekend, and it didn't hit me till mid week. So I cancelled everything yesterday and spent a day at the lottie, in the wind and rain. Despite the weather, it was exactly what I needed, so constructive in a simple way, and so calming.
