    • Yesterday gave the lawn it's first cut of the year - it was very shaggy and lumpy looking, much better now.

I also managed to work out how to adjust the height of the back wheels (only had the mower 3 years)

Everyone around me have had their 'paid help' do their first cuts this week. A few of them have commented that they think I am mad doing mine myself. It keeps me fit though so I won't be stopping.

I am going to pull out my new (to me) Hayter mower I had orf ebay at the end of last season and get to it at the weekend (hoping for no rain).

          • Very smart Darcy

Got a load of seeds sown: Peppers, Aubergine, Cucumber, Toms, Squash, Leeks.... i'm sure there was some more.

Discovered a slight issue when putting in one of the foundation tubes for the polytunnel.... the space the tunnel occupies as moved about 30-40cm and that has put it off the grass onto the road. A little bit of creative engineering (brute force) and the hoop now fits but the tunnel will taper slightly to a thinner end.

Hopefully have the main frame done this weekend then can start work on the doors etc.

            • - 2 days weeding the large front garden. I made the mistake of mulching it with leafmould gathered from near a very weedy wild area, so the lovely dark brown mulch quickly became a green sea of malva, nettles & dandies

Ruth Stoute had a standard phrase for that..........add more mulch!

I can't afford paid help, so it's down to me to keep it tidy.

                      • Littlest helper and I planted some chitted peas at the allotment, and another row of potatoes (Maris Peer).

I won't tell you what else she did at the allotment though, cos I don't want to upset anyone.

I still have some of the compost I saved from the old compost heap, it is in some old transparent plastic bags that originally had sand in them. Now the surface of the compost is green with weed seedlings, glad I didn't spread this lot on my plot

                            • Dug up some stuff that looked like yellowy underground grass. Am I right in thinking this is the dreaded couch grass?

                              • So far, I'm about halfway through brewing 5 gallons of Galaxian pale ale, and I've just taken the chillies that have germinated out of the prop and put them on a south-east windowsill above a radiator until they're ready to pot on. I think some of them might have got a bit leggy, but I'm hoping I can earth them up a bit to sort this out when they get potted on.
