    • We repotted a lot of seedlings tonight - sunflowers and nasturtium for the borders, and more tomatoes and chilis that have finally sprouted.

chopped the flower off today, used a sharp knife and managed to do it quite low down where the stem was not hollow.

Will be planting my Asparagus crowns later

            • (Yesterday, not today)

Got woken up by the site rep phoning me saying my plot was being rented out to someone else, and did I want to come clear my shed This is not a good way to be woken up, especially when you're off ill having a nice lie in, and have lost your voice from a cold so can only squeak and cough at people.

I called the council to find out what the *^$% was going on: apparently I didn't pay my rent this year, which, come to think of it, I didn't remember paying- however, I didn't pay the rent because I never got a bill. It turns out I didn't get a bill because the allotment agency sent it to my old address. I was sure I'd called them and changed the address when I moved, and I said so when I called. It turns out though, I didn't, I emailed them, and I have their reply saying "That's fine, I've updated your address on our records", dated September last year to prove it.

Anyway, I still have an allotment (though I still don't have a bill, which I still have to pay, but it's the council so they need to get the billing department to cooperate first). And they were pretty apologetic once I called back and squeaked my way through the email over the phone (especially as the person who I was talking to was, by lucky chance, the person who wrote the email ).

So far as actual gardening goes, I just nipped down there and did a bit of weeding to reasure myself that no-one else had yoinked it all out from under me, but whew...

              • Planted out some more calabrese, cauliflower and cabbage plants to make room for new sowings in the greenhouse. I also moved all the aubergine, melon, sweet pepper and cucumber seedlings into the greenhouse now that they're all growing so well. Temperatures reached 35 degrees in there today! I think all that glass cleaning means I'm going to get a much warmer greenhouse this year, so I'd better be careful not to overheat all the plants.

I also sowed some more broad beans in the raised beds outside, and then some courgettes and chicory in the greenhouse. Then pottered around the garden looking at all the flowers and small plants and fruit bushes coming to life and felt very pleased with myself.

                • Planted some cucumber seeds in pots and then put some parsnip seeds onto some kitchen roll to hopefully germinate.

Then given it was such a warm and sunny day went to the garden centre and got a blackberry plant and lots of compost. Came back and dug over a bed that is either going to be for sweetcorn or calabrese, planted out the blackberry and made some wire support for it on the fence. After all that decided I had definitely been biten by the grow your own bug so filled a plantered and sowed it with spring onions and mixed salad seeds.

                    • Bought 2 six pack of trailing fuchsias a few weeks ago and potted these into individual pots today. Potted on some tomato and chilli plants that are really starting to grow now.
Planted out the last of my first early potatoes and 2 rows of onions.
Spent a good bit of time staking the peas and beans and them netting them all to keep the pesky cat off the newly dug soil

And your hands begin to harden.
