    • Dug my trenches for the main crop potatoes (which will go in soon), and tidied a but around the greenhouse.
Moved my pea seedlings onto a reversed wire drawer to prevent mice eating them.

          • What a busy few days trying to get on top of things before we jet off for a few days in the sun. This week so far have finished the 3rd raised bed and filled it with riddled soil , this will be used for brassicas but for now covered with black poly. Set up automatic greenhouse watering system
, just hope it works . Potted on untold marigold , lobelia , and other assorted bedding plants think my seed sowing got out of hand. Planted out parsnips ( first time growing them) which I started in paper tubes also planted out peas, beetroot , swede. Now in dire need of a rest , maybe it would be easier to stay at home .

              • Didn't even set foot in my tunnel today.. learned that First Tunnels no longer supply the battens I need to fix the new skin in place so I either will need to rip some on the table saw or try to get this done somewhere.

Anyway, set up the ridges for my kitchen spuds today using the drill plough on my trusty old merrytiller(with a new chinese engine). Had to use my spade to straighten a few of the drills out which was hard work but it's done. Spuds will get planted in 3 weeks or so. We get really late frosts up here so folly to try to plant early. So hard work done and now I sit on my hands and try to ignore theitch which says plant them.

                • Decided the parsnips weren't going to come up, so bought a new pack and planted some. I know I bought a new one a few months ago, but I went through the whole seed heap, and I couldn't find 'em. Bet they'll show up now...

Planted out a few more spuds; I'm running very late, there's still some to plant, getting cross and giving me pointed looks every time I see them.

Also set up the poles for one lot of climbing french beans and netting for some peas, plus sowed some broadies and planted out some sweet peas. I still haven't quite finished planning where I'm going to fit in everything, and I really should get a few more beds sorted on plot B. though the soil's awful there (due to previous owner's odd habits).

Got the invoice from the council for the plot, and paid it. Hopefully that should be the end of the problem... at least until I move house again.

                  • Finally finished filling my raised bed, installed new safety net on the kids trampoline (cut up the old one into sections and stored in shed, "just in case, I can find a use for it") everything coming along nicely in tunnel so just checked in and watered the stuff that needed. Tomorrow going to have myself a fire to get rid of some of the mess I've made and have a look at making myself some more staging for in tunnel......

                    • Parsnips, parsnips... 8 seeds finally germinated on the sodden kitchen towel! Sowed them in little pots which are now on the kitchen windowsill. Does that sound right? Will put them in the unheated GH when they show a bit more life. Encouraging! If slow. Treated the un germinated seeds that had not gone mouldy to a new bit of kitchen towel and a good drenching. Decided only to do a limited number of parsnips this year, just as an experiment. Do they like sandy soil, same as carrots, does anybody know?

Nooser your parsnips need to go into the ground or deep containers once they've germinated because they don't transplant like lettuce and other seedlings do. All you end up with is forked roots.

I've started potting on my toms and realised I might run out of windowsills now they're taking up more space.

                          • Tonight I... Went to the allotment for the first time of an evening and used the extra light to clear the turfs from bed #5. Then I peered noisily over the neighbours fence.

"And it was on that day that the boy realised the enormity or the task. For he was no man. He was barely a boy amongst the other allotmenteers as he gazed in awe at the sight before him. Was this what heaven may look like? It was as if the soil had been seived by the gods above, whilst the angels removed every trace of root and stone. The boy kneeled and prayed that perhaps one day, his plot may come even halfway close to this."

And with that, I went home for a cuppa and me tea!

                              • Planted out the Mange tout on the plot. Had to get the hose out! Plot was so dry, broccoli seedlings I planted out last week almost dead, due to lack of water, hope they recover.

Other seeds, carrots, beetroot, salad etc coming up, and potatoes up!
