  • Spent a couple of hours at the allotment doing some more weeding by hand, finished one 16 sq m bed of Winter Field beans and most of the Broad Beans, just one more 16 sq m bed of Winter Field beans to do

Noticed some of the Asparagus crowns I planted last Wednesday are sprouting

    • Cleared the old strawberry bed, weeded and straightened the rows and planted 16 new crowns, and spaced out a lot of the runners.

Now instead of a small patch that's completely overgrown with dandelions, lemon balm and strawberries, there are 4 rows of plants in a patch double the original size!

      • I'm still sitting on my hands and waiting before I set anything off in the ground at the plot. To distract myself, I'm now renovating the fencing around the plot. There was some really old rusty corrugated iron at ground level which has been replaced with fresher material and some really nasty rusty weld mesh/and tangled barbed wire has been removed from the top and replaced with a single strand of barbed wire at the top with fresh netting wire attached. Took flemmin ages tying the netting to the top wire but it's done and dusted . It won't deter a determined intruder, but it makes me feel much better just looking at it.

          • Not a great deal, dug out a few monster weeds, and then tidied up the shed, it's so small, everything falls on top of you.

I did pot on some Corriander, looks a bit fragile, and sowed some parsley seeds.

            • All afternoon at the lottie with two of the little (non) helpers.

Knackered now, but more weeding and digging done. I really wanted to do no-dig, but the heavy rain has made a right mess of my sandy soil battering it down into a claggy mess.

                    • Made a Winecap mushroom bed out of cardboard and wood chip, contained by logs, in the shade of an old apple tree.

                      • Noticed my first cherry blossom WOOHOO!!!! Eventually! Very very happy

I'd all but given up hope of getting blossom on it this year (my third year of owning the tree, and this is the first it's produced), but now it looks like they'll be a very good show soon ..... and I'l finally be having to battle the birdies for fresh cherries

                        • Weeded around the flower/herb patch, and the cuttings patch. I'm going to have to learn to throw out prunings one of these days, I have no idea what to do with so many little currant and gooseberry plants...

Also planted out the rest of the spuds, and sowed out some beetroot, carrots, lettuce, spinach, mixed mangetout (growing a yellow and a purple variety together, should look nice if the birds don't yoink the lot again).

In the time it took for me to do this- little more than aimless pottering- two guys weeded and dug over the entire plot opposite

I feel the same AiC, looking at my blossoming plum tree! Can't quite believe it after 4 years of nowt. It is a Victoria and I always thought I planted it in too windy a spot but it has perhaps become sturdy enough after 4 years to risk flowering. Let's hope the wind doesn't blow all the blossom off before it gets a chance to set!

                            • Finally got my sweet peas planted out, more room on windowsill hooray. Potted on a few tomatoes and two squashes, not a lot I know, but have been busy with boring chores , so was quite proud to fit them in. Oh and earthed a few spuds while I was at it.
