  • - I've been up the lotty all week, it's really getting shipshape now
    - planted out chard, more peas, more onions, lettuce, rocket, cabbages
    - continued weeding the communal parts, replacing the weeds with pretty flowers
    - stuck my shrub prunings in as pea supports
    - washed, chopped & froze a carrier bag of parsley & another of chard
    - mowed the lawn again, added clippings to my leafmould
    - trimmed the hedge
    - chitted more French beans & started hardening off the ones in the gh
    - gave the green manures another cut, spread the clippings on the beds as mulch
    - did the same with weeds

    • Planted up two of the upright barrel strawberry planter thingies, so that's the first 30 plants taken care of Well actually, there's slightly more. There was 18 runners planted (3 each of 6 different varieties) and the other 12 "pockets" became home to some very small wild white strawb seedlings (aren't they annoyingly slow to develop ) ... but some of the cells had multiple seddlings with the roots all tangled together. Instead of separating them and risking damaging the roots or "thinning with scissors", I've decided to leave them a while in case any meet their demise naturally.

I'll be planting up the other barrel with another 30 plants tomorrow, but tonight I'm off up the motorway to a friends house for a few beers and a catch up I'll still have a few wild white seedling left over, but I have a plan ...

      • Up the lotty all day today. I did:
        - put up the frame ready for sweet peas
        - put up runner bean frame - went for a V shaped frame this year for a change instead of the normal wigwam shape
        - cut the grass paths....... again
        - put up the pea netting
        - emptied one compost bin onto the beds, turned the full bin into the empty one and now starting to fill up again withn the grass cuttings and chicken coop clearings
        - earthed up the first earlys
        - had a good lunch in the sun :-)
        - pricked out cabbage
        - potted on the sweetpeas

        A good day all round

          • A pretty productive day for me today, the raised beds have all been dug over, the compost bins have been emptied and dug into the beds, the lawns been cut and I've planted the seed in my dad's head to build me some greenhouse staging. Tomorrow will be seed tray cleaning and seed sowing day and potentially building the staging .

                • Potted my last yellow Bell pepper seedlings into pots. One of them I've potted in a small pot and as an experiment I'm going to see how big it can get

                  • Here are my orange and red bell pepper plants which I've had to move out of the way for a while, while I water my newly potted yellow Bells

                    • I spent a full day down the allotment, clearing beds for planting. Then came back to watch the Masters.
                      Same again tomorrow, hopefully!

                        • I did some very minor as-I-was-passing weeding when I went to get some herbs, but today I'm going to sow beetroot, carrots and onions and pull up the sticky weed that is encroaching in one or two areas.

Wouldn't it be interesting to start a 'What I plan to do tomorrow' thread and then see how it tallies with this one?!
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

                          • Y/day got 3 rows of potatoes in. 1 row 2 varities of 1st earlies 2 rows of 2nd earlies. Also
Last week steered 10 30ltr pots of potatoes off in the greenhouse. They will be moved outside when I can move onto my new plot. Started work on my carrot bed over the weekend. I've rotavated 3 bags of sharp sand into it to open the soil up a bit. Fingers crossed because I struggle growing carrots in the ground.

                            • Strimmed all the weeds. Got the beetroot seedlings in the ground, then sowed one row of Purple Haze carrots and one of Rondo, with my 5 yr old. By then was too irritated to do much beyond pick some herbs for a salad and come in >:S

                              • Tidied. Cleared out three raised beds so that the first half of the plot is now a blank canvass. Got stung by a rogue blackberry shoot in the process.

Piled a heap of decaying leaves and stuff onto a potato mound.

Found lots of pear and apple blooms
