  • Have planted on some of the bigger tomatoes to their bags and now on top balcony, was a big effort getting compost up 4 floors! Still 3 more to do. Planted up. 6 smaller toms into 'flower buckets ' , had to be done they were being restricted in plastic greenhouse.

Put the comfrey 'roots' into little pits to see if they grow!

Emptied almost whole tray of dwarf beans, that just haven't germinated, the seeds appear to have rotted? Overwatering? Anyway will plant more.

    • Phew, where do I start. Opened the allotment gates at 7.30 am for a skip to be picked up supposed ly at 8.00am. One and a half hours later at 9.30 am skip wagon eventually arrived to pick up first skip with second skip an hour later.
Did loads of weeding whilst waiting. Poor grape vine had been hit by the frost even though it is in the greenhouse. About 30 bunches of grapes frizzled! Just hope there's enough growth and time for a second lot of grapes to form?
Planted out a pumkin on a mound of home produced compost. Cut the bottom off a large clear plastic container and put it over pumpkin to try and save it from frosty nights.
12.00 noon arrived and it was time to go on an outing to have a look at a composting toilet that another Association had got a grant for. Was impressed and also liked there meeting hut, also grant aided.
Went on another unplanned fact finding mission to another site before returning to our site by 2.30pm.
Planted out a tray full of beetroot and some celariac seedlings.

Put a load of leeks and onions out of the greenhouse to harden off in a sheltered spot.
Collapsed the portable table in the big greenhouse and after adding home made compost tickled over the greehouse bed.

        • Weeded and rough dug two beds on the new plot. Fatched 12 bags really well rotted of horse muck. Covered both the beds with the muck and will rotavate them tomorrow. Think I have enough muck to do the long thin bed in the middle of the plot so I'll kick on with that tomorrow. Before and after the committee meeting. Also took delivery of 150 growbags 30 bags of compost for the lotty shop. All had to be handballed off and into a cabin.

              • Yesterday I uncovered a section that I had put week killer on 😞, strimmed then covered with carpet, I dug it it over and will rotavate on Monday ready for courgettes and squash. Peas and broad beans looking good 😀.
In the garden I took out a Hebe that had outgrown its welcome and cleaned the water feature and got it working again.

                • Seeing as how I only got the allotment at the start of last month I've been a bit late with some of the sowing. Finally got around to shallots and garlic sets today, after that I planted cucamelon, cornichon, tomatillo and Sunbaby tomatoes into windowsill propagators and bought them home with me. I watered what was in the polytunnel, my other half got on with clearing weeds from a patch of land we want to use as an orchard and I went on slug patrol.

I find going first thing in the morning is very conducive to getting stuff done so I can come home and have a big breakfast!

                  • Planted out some lettuce, cabbage and calabrese, sowed sow French bean cobra, made some cane wigwams for them. Weeded and weeded some more. I've watered everything and planted out some cornflower and poached egg plants.

Took a detour on the way home to wyevales. They've got a bulb sale, and veg sale, I bought 2 asparagus for £1, 50 red onion sets £1, 6 delphiniums £2, 40 gladioli £2, they were selling off their seed potatoes to for a quid. If only I had room

                      • Planted out 3 more rows of mange tout seedlings, and constructed netting n canes for them to grow up.

                        2 rows dwarf bean seedlings

3 cucumbers + canes for support, ( they had to go out were getting very loopy at home, and already have some flowers!

                        Staked broad beans

Moved some very heavy bags of well rotted stable manure, looks very good, very dark and fll f worms.

                        Watered plot.

Now I am very achy and tired and have to cook dinner, then start sowing more seeds, as have space again.

                        • Got up early expressly to mow the grass, forgetting it would be wet - duh. Then tried to move the full compost bin on a sack truck but just don't have the muscles, so cleaned out the hen house instead. Later on mowed the grass while DH rigged up a support system for the rasps. Bit pooped now and lunch to cook, so the compost bin can wait til tomorrow zzzzz
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?
