    • - spent 3 long days moving RustyLady to a new, much nicer, house
      - moved her greenhouse intact, ie not taking it to bits
      - deadheaded the seeding weeds on her lotty at the same time
      - then watered my lotty as no rain due for the next 10 days. We are now in drought
      - lots of seedlings to go in the ground, but I'll wait until rain is forecast, or they'll just struggle
      - carried on deadheading the flowers on the perimeter fence, which are going over quickly now
      - cerinthe are over, so saved lots of seed & chopped up the plants as mulch
      - and planted baby foxgloves in their place, which I have lots of
      - picked another carrier bag full of lettuce, peas & broadies. Best spring EVER
      - continued defoliating the broadies as I pick the pods: this increases air flow, reducing the impact of chocolate spot and the mulch is good for the soil. It's also far quicker than traditional composting in heaps. The empty pods are left on the soil surface too

      • Weeded, watered the runner beans and then used the chopped up weeds as a mulch to help prevent evaporation - thank you Two Sheds. Weeded the cauliflower and planted some more out - hopefully we'll have some 'following on' caulis this year. Thinned a couple of short rows of beetroot. Came home to water greenhouse and No 2 son had mowed lawns

        • Nowhere near as busy as two_sheds sadly.

Started on an unused quarter of my plot - it's a mess of old rasberries (that don't really produce any usable fruit), bramble, couch grass and thistle. it's gotta go. But the ground is now like concrete - mix of it being dry and having the above mentioned stuff in it. So, I started on it, tuning about a square metre to a depth of half a spade. It's going to take a while (though I want to put Christmas spuds in there)

          • Tidied up the garden after last nights cocktail fest which went on till gone 3am .... then came back inside to nurse my hangover. I have other things I ought to do today, so I might be posting on this thread again later. Then again I might just go back to bed

            • Weeded, dug over a part of a bed and filled it with leeks. For once my leeks ARE pencil size and I dibbled in about 30 all told. Weeded the beetroot bed and some celariac I have planted seems to have stopped growing.
Donned the leather gloves and went on a nettle and thistle hunt. Its not recommended tackling nettles and thistles with shorts and open toed sandals on but escaped relatively lightly all told.
Pulled masses of goose grass out which was slowly engulfing my raspberry buhes.

Took all leaves below the bottom truss of my greenhouse grown tomato plants off to let a bit of air circulate and allow me to weed around them. Sideshooted and tied them up when I was on.
Gave the greenhouse beds a good soaking before leaving allotment.

              • Pulled up my Sutton, broad beans, they suddenly got rust and were failing, so have rescued remaining beans and popped them in freezer.

Picked large punnet of raspberries, now in freezer.

2 punnets strawberries, almost finished now, and mainly frozen, but large bowl in fridge for later.

Stacked some of the Borlotti beans, they are supposed to be dwarf ones!

Cut down some of my crazy raspberry canes that had escaped from fruit cage, about 12 ft high! And also some of the huge nettles that seem to have appeared.

Was too hot to do more.

                • Did lots of watering.
Planted out a butternut squash and 24 Gazanias that I grew from last year's saved seeds.
                  Picked enough raspberries for lunch.

                      • Went to plot and weeded, weeded, weeded and then I watered and watered some more. Picked loads of berries, ate loads of berries. I'll have a courgette big enough to eat in a couple of days.

This afternoon I took my friend to hospital for an MRI scan, home at 6:30 exhausted.

                        • This weekend has been a mammoth allotment weekend.

Yesterday I finished painting an obeslique, planted out squash and courgettes plants, climbing beans and dwarf beans, after finally sorting out the bean supports, planted out cucumbers, artichokes. Watered watered watered everything....I have no clue how many watering cans I filled. Fed everything whilst watering.

Today I planted out kohl rabi, cabbage, broccoli, brukale, kale, asparagus seedlings, chilli plants. Sowed more French beans and borlottis....having major issues with them rotting. Overhauled my rhubarb bed....extending it, mulching it and planting a new crown. Put a stevia in a big terracotta pot. Netted my new brassica bed. Watered watered watered. Oh and watered...

                          It's been a good weekend.

                          • Sawed down an unwanted hazel bush from the feral half of the plot- I do feel a little guilty killing a tree, but there are 4 on the plot, and that one was shading way too much otherwise useable space. I still need to dig the roots out, if I can dig in the soil when it's that hard. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

Was still too hot to do much else, bar water everything and pick some broadies, purple mangetout, strawberries, raspberries, gooseberries and white currants. Oh, and ogled a swarm of bees on one of the other plots.

At least the less feral half of the plot is looking decent!

                            • Purchased & delivered to the plot some bits of guttering and lengths of timbers to bodge together rain water harvesting off the top of my poly; watered stuff; decided my last uncultivated patch is too solid to dig and that I need rain to soften it first...! (excuses!)
