Removed the last bit of raised bed wall and footings and can now back fill with soil and compost to extend the pottager beds.

- praying for rain, I planted out several trays of marigolds, French beans, lettuce, lentils, mung beans
- took up the newspaper mulch: brilliant job of killing off the path weeds, moved it to where it's needed next
- watered the daleks, as the ants are moving in
- continued picking peas, broadies, lettuce, courgettes
- cont. deadheading the flowers on the perimeter fence (a chore, but so worth it)
- picked & podded another carrier bag of peas: dropped the pods straight on the soil as a mulch
- sheared all the green manures, left shavings on the beds, as mulch
- gathered 100s of cerinthe seeds, to distribute to everyone that's requested some
- planted out French marigolds & foxgloves in the gaps where the cerinthe was
- green manures are starting to dry out, for usable seed: cut them off in bunches tied to roof of shed, carrier bag tied over so as to catch the seed as it falls out
- weeding: as usual, I only pull up the weeds as they flower. There are too many to pull individually, so I let them get as big as poss & pull before they can seed. Leave them on soil as mulch
- cut back the wild rose again, it's throwing out new shoots every week, that snag my hair
- picked the first cherry off my Stella
- too many redcurrants ! Picked 3 punnets, but freezer is full (of peas, broadies, cabbage, kale)
- no strawbs this year: I left their (limnanthes) living mulch on too long & they didn't flower in time
- pulled several shallot plants up, to make space for lettuce seedlings
- dug out 4 spud plants to make room for French bean seedlings. Really short on space now
- watered the peas again (20 litres psm, pw) to keep them coming
- pulled out all the Valdor lettuce, that bolted all at the same time. Didn't eat a single oneAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

More like what I didn't do today, apart from the weeding, planting, picking........I didn't pick the dark red lettuce out of the flowerbed, it looks too gorgeous! Picked more green instead.
Know I should deadhead them to encourage more flowers, but the spiky seed pods of the Californian poppies look really pretty too, left most of them where they were!
Ran out of steam, didn't get round to picking the red currants! Strange how the birds seem to leave them alone but decimate the blackcurrants if they get the chance!
Puts a new slant on the term 'pigeon racing', I'm winning so far! New nets doing their job.

Done some more to our new decking area, also went to Wilkos and got the raspberry collection (one cane each of early mid and late fruiting) and a black current bush for £2.50 very chuffed and very tempted to go back tomorrow for more!

Planted out lots of red cabbages, sprouts, kohl rabi and cabbage. Then I began to tidy up the polytunnel, only to find that BLIGHT has penetrated there for the first time ever!
I had it on the potatoes outside which I dug up and removed the tops, and then I sprayed all the outside toms with Bordeaux mixture. But I just couldn't believe it today to find blackened stems and dead leaves on at least five plants, even the cherry types. I have destroyed the affected plants but fear the worst for the remaining ones.
I can't think how the blight got into the tunnel unless from my hands and clothes. V bad news!Last edited by BertieFox; 25-06-2014, 07:38 PM.

Planted out some Chard that I'd grown in modules then weeded in between my parsnips.
We've only had 5 mins of rain this week so I gave the courgettes a good soak, fed toms and potatoes with comfrey but managed to get it all over my feet luckily I'd got my crocs on.Location....East Midlands.
