What I did today 2012-2014

Hoed the weeds down thats growing amongst the runner beans and thats about it until the sun drops this evening.

Today i done a bit of weeding..Watered the peas..thats about it folks.

Amongst other things, I put some solar LED's round the water hole. Hopefully it'll help the wildlife at night.........

Started saving flower seeds for our next local seed swap in September!

Also started 'fondling' for ripeness one of our plum trees.

Ahhh, hoeing is so much easier now that all the hand-weeding was done. About half an hour tonight and I had it finished up.

I hated hand-weeding but I really got some material for my compost that way.

Started today by planning just how I am going to get the net off my fruit cage and replace it with veggiemesh. The survey of the site resulted in removing 3 tubs of strawberry plants which have finished fruiting and trimming off the dead leaves and old fruiting stems. Harvested all the nearly ripe strawberries from the tower pot (about 6) to get them out of the way of the wasps.

Cut down the last of the old broccoli plants, which was riddled with caterpillars and rapidly turning into lace. Never seen so many yellow eggs on the undersides of the leaves. The whole lot went straight into the hotbin. Weeded round the bits I couldn't get at when the broccoli was there.

Made some courgette and carrot soup. Harvested some courgettes and beans. Before soup fridge contained 3 courgettes. After soup, fridge contained 3 courgettes... something not quite right here!

Harvested the first ripe Sungold tomato and ate it. Couldn't get anywhere near as excited about the first Totem or Tumbler somehow.

Added a huuuge slug to the hotbin - it was that or leaving it to the nematodes, but the hotbin seemed more of a certainty.

Veggiemesh didn't arrive today. Hopefully tomorrow.

Yesterday ripped up the cabbage patch which has been utterly destroyed by butterflies/caterpillars, re potted my aloe babies which have been overtaking the mothers pot, very happy with how our first ever sweetcorn plants are coming along

Pulled all the horsetail out of the front garden (again). Watched Mrs H pressure-washing the drive until a thunderstorm stopped play.

Spent today over the plot and erected another brasica cage ready for my new arrivals next week. Found what I think is the ultimate pigeon deterent in a charity shop.....Max Bygrave's greatest hits.....did he have any?

Spent the afternoon in a garden chair with the hose sprinkler in my hand, every few minutes sending a shower up over my head which fell and soaked me in cold water. Its seriously too hot here.

Spend most of Saturday working. Came home to have a BBQ with next doors and had a lesson on how to play Poker.
