Spent what seemed like hours, trying to get through to 'certain mobile phone company', about them suddenly taking £40.00, rather than £9.00, from my account! Eventually, this afternoon, got through, and they gave sorted it out! Drives me mad, ( this bit should be on rant!)

Harvested bell peppers, okra, tomatoes, and for the the first time this season ... corn. Best corn I've ever grown. I had corn on the cob and tomatoes for my dinner tonight and the rest of the family ate several ears of corn too. Made all of the work this season worth while. The family gave the corn a strong 2-thumbs up!Nutter's Club member.

Got out the secateurs and cleared a load of nettles, briars and bindweed. My plot is bounded on two sides by a hedge and on the other two chickenwire is stretched between wooden fence stakes. On one of those sides is a struggling flower bed that likes to grow bindweed, briars etc. Trying to grow anything along any of the edges is always a pain.
Also weeded the tomatoes and few struggling bean plants, cut back the sweetpea that always ambushes me as I go in and out of the veg patch gate, and burnt some old hen-pooey boxes. Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

Deadheaded a load of flowers and generally tidied up. Cut off 2 branches of my buddleia which had mysteriously died (its a Buddleia Blue Chip in a pot, and it has NO flowers this year, which is disappointing). Took the strawberry tower apart and trimmed off all the dead leaves, runners and fruit stalks, removed 4 slugs and a large snail, and reassembled it outside the cage. Rearranged the inside with the blueberries pulled back a bit further from the veggiemesh to stop them being knocked off if we get the forecast wet and windy weekend. Tied up some of the tomatoes that were being particularly thuggish - when I last looked they were all leaning against the fence, but today they have decided to lean the other way, with the result that I couldn't get to the growhouse at all!
Harvested the obligatory courgettes, plus some salads, carrots, a cucumber, the first of the Desiree potatoes and half a punnet of Sungold tomatoes plus a few blueberries.Last edited by Penellype; 05-08-2014, 09:43 PM.A life is like a garden. Manured the leek bed, but struggled to make the holes with my brush pole so will wait until after some rain. Blood Fish and Bone on the strawberry bed and hoed it in. Lime on the brassica bed before the plants go in. Completely cleared the flower bed of weeds. Potted on all my chillies and fed them and the tomatoes.
