  • I planted out my ormskirk cabbage and early rudolf broccoli seedlings put a few slug pellets round them and they are under a fleece tunnel, I'll see how many survive the night.

    • Lifted the onions. Picked some raspberries, blackberries and tomatoes.
And planted some winter pansies - if they look like that in the winter I will be amazed!

      • Too tired to post yesterday having dug over a corner of the garden ready for some shrubs etc to pretty it up. In the afternoon hubby took a brush cutter to the unloved end of the my sanctuary of botanical wonders for me, I raked it a in to piles and now I need to get rid of it all and start digging. I also put all my new little strawberry plants on a big tray ( about 30 of them) and pegged out a few more. A new strawberry bed for allotment and some for my daughter 😊🍓🍓🍓

            • Dug up dwarf beans (waste of space they were). Dug up calabrese and give the plants to lottie neighbour for her chooks. Picked a bunch of sweet peas. Dug up two tomato plants that were starting with blight, green tomatoes are currently being salted to make green tomato chutney tomorrow. I got about 4 kg off two plants, didn't think that was too bad. Ordered a roll of roof felt off lottie shop so my dad can refelt my shed roof.

Went to garden centre bought some cabbage to overwinter, 9 plants for £4.

Come home cup of tea and placed an order with kings (other seed companies are available). I've order asparagus crowns, garlic, onions, shallots, lemon crystal cucs, cauliflower...

Need a rest my purse is exhausted.

              • Finished mulching the front garden, put in the sweet peas. Pulled out the globe artichoke. Took the offsets to pot up, but forgot to pot them. Hope they hold on till the morning.
Mulched up 3/4 of the side front garden.
Pondered where to put the asparagus corms.
Daughter mulched the flower beds and put in some plants I held back till the worst of the cold was done.

You confused me with put in sweet peas but then I checked your location and it all makes sense. I guess your growing season is just starting and ours is coming to an end.

                    • I cleared all the remaining foliage from my potatoes - Charlotte, Ratte, Rooster, Maris Piper and Cara. The recent dry weather has slowed the spread of blight so I'm pretty confident the tubers are okay.

I dug up a couple of Rooster plants to check. There was quite a lot of slug damage, which is worrying. So I dug up some Charlotte from the adjacent bed and these were completely clean, so I'm not going to worry too much just yet.

I also cleared my outdoor tomatoes. Infected fruit went in the bin, foliage on the compost heap and all clean unripe fruit came home with me to ripen on the windowsill.

It looks like a wet day ahead so I won't be doing much gardening

                      • Oh what a shame Martin, after all the work. Hoping your pots will be ok. We had a blight warning, but my pots had already 'died' down, and seem ok.

                        • I bought some hispi cabbage plants yesterday was hoping to plant them today but no such luck.

Instead I'm going to make some green tomato chutney with my kilos of green toms.

                          • Went to the local GC this morning where the Suttons seeds are half price. I was after Japanese onion sets but was told i would have to wait another month before they were in. Picked up a free herbaceous perennial that were being given away at the exit tho!
Fiished digging and clearing my earlies from a bed. Not impressed with the yeild and I managed to spear quite a few and a goodly hamount had been attacked by keel slugs.
Took up the last of my onions and mucked the bed with hoss muck.
Put the woodburner on in the greenhouse and spent an hour stripping the dead leaves and debris from the last lot of onions I'd put o dry off on the bench.
Took some shallots home to pickle along with a large gherkin and a cuke. Stuck as few of my Kelase onions in the bag also as they will need using fairly quickly as they won't keep.
