Ohh,I just 'blitzed' mine with hand blitzer thingy? Hope I'll be ok, the put them all in saucepan + those I made the other day, ( been in fridge) and 'simmered' for 5 mins. Will it be ok, do you think?

I've got ' hand ache' due to chopping stuff all day! Made squash and tomato chutney also!

        • I'm lucky that I have managed to get a small bag of tomatoes in the freezer, my husband eats ours off the vine like sweets.
Just frozen 3 bags of runners, with fingers crossed I remember they are there. Have put them with the sweetcorn, so that should help.
Took me all day to get going, that's what comes of burning the candle at both ends at my age.

          • I should think so Dotty, I sieve them because that's the way I've always done it

I've been watering for an hour. All that rain yesterday has been dried up with the sun and wind today!

              • this is more what I've done since Friday rather than just today. Drove down to Weymouth - only took 14 hours. The m5 was something else. Could have walked it quicker. Entered 12 pods of peas in the National Vegetable Society Championships at Dorchester and won the red ticket. WHoopee doo. Really enjoyed the Saturday night entertainment which was laid on for the exhibitors. Had a tour around Weymouth including the boat trip around Portland. That was so nice and relaxing and only cost a tenner each. Came home yesterday, only took 13 hours but I'm home with a stinking cold. .

Have our local vegetable show on Sunday and the Scottish Branch show the weekend after and that will be that for this year.

                Right, where is the lemsip?

                  • Today was one of those days when the best laid plans...

Spent the morning doing my business accounts (yuck) then went out to post them and got stopped by my neighbour pointing at my roof. The reason was...

Its a Eurasian Eagle Owl and its been up there for the last 5 hours or so!

Consequently I have got almost no work done as I have to keep popping out to see if he is still there. I have managed to pick a few blueberries and the odd raspberry and made some tomato sauce, but mowing the lawn had to go by the wayside as I didn't want to frighten him. He's been around the village for a couple of days Owner of rare York owl comes forward (From York Press)

                    • Did some volunteer gardening, dead-heading mainly. Then somehow ended up in local GC, for a coffee and a sandwich with fellow gardener. Bought some Green Manure, Chicken Manure Pellets, and Garlic, now why didn't they have Elephant garlic? No room I expect, because of the 'xmas decorations' !!! Can you believe it!

Called at another GC, on way home, still no Elephant Garlic, but did get Aquadulce Broad Beans, to sow,

                      Just a lovely day.

                      • Update on the owl story - the owner came round to try to entice him down. Watching him standing on my extension roof waving a turkey leg and shouting "Peanut" was one of the funniest things I've seen. The owl eventually decided to try the turkey leg, and the owner attempted to catch him in a large net. Owl flew off to a nearby house.

                        • Lots of hand weeding. Fingers are tingling today after pulling out nettles and thistles! Ate some sweet corn as comfort food and harvested some mooli.

Oops nearly forgot, spent a pleasnt half hour shelling some broad beans for next years crop. May even set them in the autumn.

                          • Harvested the last bed of onions today but afterwards I could not shake a weird sense of sadness that seemed to hang over me for the rest of the day. A feed of fraughan muffins cheered me up this evening though.

                            • No gardening today as I had other commitments. Peanut the owl is back on my roof - the front side this time. Owner is currently standing on the pavement waving the turkey leg and being ignored.

Can't say I've ever seen an owl attacking a turkey and ripping its leg off?

Maybe a dead mouse would be more to its taste?
